Thanks. Take a look through my gallery, there's plenty more of different shoots. This is primarily what I shoot too so if you're interested then please watch me to see what else turns up...

got through your gallery after i wrote this..and found the other shots...
by -shooting- i meant pics that are focused more on the BIKER himself than on the setup (which is great too!) hope you got some pics from (f.ex) just underneath or simply closeups of the jump...with a such lightning you should use it!
will surf by from time to time hehe

Nice Air, love those pink Rims and since you asked for ACE.. pull the right flash out a bit and eliminate the hotspot on the right ramp. then you can crop out the Flashes it will be more mysterious.

I like having the flashguns in the shot but I'll definitely try it without them, good point about the hotspot. I'll remember that next time. Thanks for your interest.

Nice! Love the simple strobist setup.
But it kind of looks as if the flashes were a bit too powerful. Didn't balance well with the ambient.. I don't know. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the advice- its hard to judge the flashgun power needed when they're on manual. Trial and error usually works but the guys get annoyed when they have to keep going again, especially at this time of year when it's cold. I'll try with more experimentation next time I think to get it balanced out correctly. I agree with you but there's not too much you can do in PS afterward to correct flash overexposure, I don't think?

True true. Dodging and burning can only do so much. Still a great capture though! Trial and error is still a good way to learn.

What did you use to trigger the flashes btw?

Good lighting and trick! I think the angle is a little "point-and-shoot"-ish if you know what i mean, but other than that it's good!

I wish I'd framed it with the ramp a little more to the right, but I couldn't crop it so it looked any better so I left it how it was. If you've got any suggestions to improve it retrospectively then fire away..

Do you got a really wideangle or fisheye lens? I know it's not very original, but i like photographs taken from underneath the main object in the frame. Other things you can do is for eksample to have your camera pointing straight at the lip of the jump at the exsact same height as it. Considering that i suck in english it's kind of har to explain
A shot from above could be cool, but then you'll need a jib or something and that's expensive. Try to look at a lot movies a photographs on skiing/snowboarding/biking/skating and see for yourself what you like I like most tings that is shot from eather higher or lower than the photographers height, it gives a much more interesting look right away

This was shot with 28mm f1.8 but I was just trying out a new view. If you have a look through my gallery then you can see the other things I get up to. For this shot I stood on top of another ramp just to see what'd happen. I'm getting a bit bored of being in close- I want to try new angles so that I've got more scope for sequences etc. I sometimes do shots from above with a stepladder but I'm not sure if any are online.
