Description Just after the ramps were painted. Love the colour and shadow. Little bit of a saturation tweak to liven it up.

It took me a long time to get into the habit, but white balance is what you need to learn.
In a shot like this you can set it on 'flash' and the camera will recognise the colour of the flash, otherwise If you are shooting wider (i.e using light from the street lights, your best bet is to set the wb to 'tungsten' as thats the colour of the streetlights, and if you're using flash then pop a tungsten gel on the head, so that all light is the same temperature.

I've got a workflow now when I set up for a shoot, flash/no flash, focal length, position, wb, metering, exposure, focus, recompose, shoot.

Good luck!

Just look in your manual and online for white balance. With flash it's no different, but for example if you're shooting with tungsten light (i.e streetlights, bulb light indoors) or flourescent light (strip lights indoors) and flash, you balance the camera so that the main light source shows as white, and then manipulate the colour (temperature) of the flash so that it is roughly the same as what you balanced for (i.e the tungsten or flourescent ambient light.)

I agree, the red makes the picture stand out pretty well, although it slightly takes your attention away from the subject.
