Description acrylic on canvas 30"x48"
2008

This is copied from, and titled after, one of my favorite paintings by Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte. The original is a giant champagne glass with a cloud resting on it. I decided to put in it's place my favorite instrument the Jew's Harp, an instrument that I play fanatically.
Even though this was painted for the shear fun of it, I would not hesitate to use the image for a Jew's Harp festival or something.

F yeah. Magritte is one of my favorites. I think that's why I perhaps find your style in a weird way similar to my own...

I prefer the name Ozark Harp instead 'Jew's Harp'. Jew's Harp's a little derogatory I think. Very good painting nonetheless.

Looks somewhat like a bizarre nuclear explosion, nice and weird .
Jew's harps really sound amazingly cool, i'd love to learn play that and didgeridoo

i love to play my j-harps. they do have a great sound.
there is a band you may be interested in. they are called airtist, and they're a dance band but they use didgeridoo, jew's harp, and human beat box. great stuff.

I have seen the original painting (the actual painting) and though you're presenting this as a riff on Magritte's idea I think this is conceptually stronger. The Jew's Harp is simply a stronger and more intriguing shape to build a cloud on.
