Did you use some kind of lighting filter for this shot, it looks great.

Actually this is a Mantuik algorithm based tone mapped HDR image. I built it out of three different levels of exposure so that I could catch the "shiny" on it while still giving it even lighting throughout the image.

Its really cool, its something I'd like to try with my steampunk pictures if I knew how, I use Photoshop to edit my pictures.

Actually I use a program called Luminance HDR (previously called qtpfsgui) to do the HDR tonemapping. It's free, but it's not super easy to use.
