Description
Kurai was still in pursuit of the man walking alone. The man turned a corner and Kurai followed; out of sight. He saw that the man was headed towards an apartment building, probably where he lived.

Moving more quickly now, Kurai went ahead of the man and towards the apartment building. The harsh white light of the light bulbs near the entrance of the building left dark shadows behind objects and around corners; Kurai crawled behind one of the corners and waited.

The man walked closer to the entrance; unaware of the creature lurking in the darkness of the night. He reached for the handle of the door like everything was normal; when suddenly a devilish cackle was heard from the shadows. The man jumped at the sudden noise, and looked around; terrified.

He looked towards the direction of the noise, a shadowy area besides the door. As his eyes adjusted from the bright light to the darkness of the night, he could make out a shape clinging to the wall. The figure moved slightly, and the light from the bulbs glinted off of its grin of sharp teeth.

The man made a sound of terror, and then grabbed for the door handle to yank it open. He opened it, but the creature in the dark reached out and slammed it shut, growling. The man turned and ran as fast as he could, Kurai jumped out from the shadows and gave chase.

Kurai ran after the man, easily staying a few feet behind; just to keep the man on edge he stayed at that pace to give him false hope. After a few more seconds of running; the man reached the parking lot of a dark building; but Kurai decided to end it.

Kurai sped up and pounced, landing on the man’s back and slamming him to the ground. The man screamed, and Kurai dug his large claws into his flesh. He mauled ferociously, spraying the surrounding area with blood.

Soon the man’s cries for help stopped, he was dead. Kurai got up off the corpse, blood was on his clothing and all over his claws. He looked down at his work, satisfied with the results.

Kurai, admiring his job well done, didn’t notice a sound behind him getting louder as it got nearer. Then he realized the sound, but it was too late. Something grabbed him by the neck and flung him towards the wall of the building. Kurai slammed into the wall and fell to the ground; the blood on his clothing left a mark on the cement.

“くそ！” (Shit!) He swore, gasping to get a breath. He put a hand on the ground to push himself up to his feet; but the attacker picked him up and then slammed him to the ground. Kurai growled and struggled to get to his feet; he looked up at his assailant.

Three pairs of large wings were fully outstretched; their impressive wingspan cast dark shadows on the ground. Their owner growled; it was Scollex.

“くそ、悪魔!” (Dammit, demon!) He snarled; his arms morphed into claws. “The one human I could find on the streets, and you killed him!”

“残念, 祖ね、お前がもたもた!” (What a shame; then I guess that means you’re just slow!) Hissed Kurai, as he got to his feet.

Scollex growled at the insult, “Now I need another way to settle my bloodlust.”

Kurai was silent and ready to attack.

“We’re the only ones here; I guess you’ll do.” Scollex snarled and flew towards him quickly; Kurai hissed and jumped to the side, dodging him. Climbing up the wall for an advantage point; Kurai jumped down and landed on Scollex, digging his claws into one of his wings and using his teeth as well.

Scollex yowled and clawed at him, leaving bloody gashes; most on Kurai, but some accidentally to himself. In a flurry of feathers, Kurai fell off of Scollex. He had the end segment of one of the small gray wings in his mouth; he spat it out and snarled. Scollex glanced at his damaged wing and grew enraged.

“お前を殺す!” (I’ll kill you!)

“We might have to go home soon.” Yuki informed Kage as they walked along the sidewalk.

“So soon? Can’t we stay longer; おねがいー！” (Please-!) Kage tried to put on his ‘cute’ voice, “I don’t get to come here very much!”

“カゲがちょ可愛い,” (You’re so cute,) Yuki giggled, “Fine, we can stay a little-”

A yowl pierced the silent night, followed by hissing and yelling.

“くそ！” (Dammit!) One of the voices hissed.

“おまえしね！” (You die!) The other snarled.

“Kurai!?” Yuki gasped, she ran towards the direction of the fighting; Kage ran after her.

Kurai and Scollex were facing each other; both were bleeding, although Kurai was faring much worse. They were waiting for the other to make a move, growling and hissing.

Yuki ran around the corner and saw them, Kage was right behind her.

Kurai noticed them and gasped, he looked in their direction; fearing for their safety. Seeing him get distracted, Scollex saw his chance. He dashed forward and swung one of his clawed hands towards Kurai; Kurai gasped and turned his head, trying to dodge.

Scollex’s claws hooked Kurai’s face and sunk in. He lifted him in the air by his face and then swung his arm again with such force that he threw Kurai away, but half of his face was still in Scollex’s hand.

Kurai screeched in agony and slammed into the wall, then to the ground. He writhed on the ground, clawing at it in delirium due to the intense pain screaming across his face. After a few seconds that felt like hours, he fell motionless.

Scollex laughed and shook his hand, ridding it of the pieces of flesh that were once the left side of Kurai’s face; and then turned to see Yuki running towards him; both of her silver daggers were out and ready to fight. Getting him by surprise, she jumped up and stabbed one of them down and left a large gash across his chest. Scollex snarled and struck out at her, ripping the skin on her arm.

Kage was paralyzed by the shock and fear that the horrific scene induced. That scene seemed to play over in his mind in slow motion; his father flying through the air, half his face gone with blood streaking in the air from it; and then slamming into the wall, then the ground, and soon lying still.

Kage snapped out of the trance and ran towards his father on the ground. Kurai was surrounded by a pool of his own blood; all that remained of the left side of his face were exposed muscles and an empty eye socket. His other eye was slightly open, but not moving.

“Dad! Dad get up!” Kage shook his father, urging him to be alright.

Kurai was still; the only motion coming from him was blood pouring from the ripped skin on his face.

“お父さん!” (Dad!)

No response.

“お父さん!　頑張れ！お願い!” (Dad! Hang in there! Please!) Kage shook him, trying to force him to wake up. No response.

“お願い!” (Please!) Tears began forming in his eyes.

Still nothing.

“パパ . . . ” (Daddy . . .) Kage stopping shaking him.

Scollex flew backwards, dodging Yuki’s attacks. Something caught his eye and he looked to the side, he saw Kage mourning over his motionless father. Scollex grinned and flew towards him.

“Don’t you dare!!” Yuki shouted and sprang up, she jabbed down the dagger right on Scollex’s eye mask; it sliced through it and right into his left eye. She let go and it stayed there, a few inches deep.

Scollex screamed and grabbed at the dagger, trying to pull it out. Yuki plunged the other dagger right into his heart. He screeched and pulled out the dagger in his eye, dark blood splashed onto the ground. He tried to get the one in his heart out, but he wasn’t quick enough. He fell to the ground in a heap of blood and feathers, and his body began to burn up; leaving only the two silver daggers.
