Description
It was once again night. It seemed like another beautiful night, the stars were numerous and the moon was bright; occasionally hiding behind clouds only to reveal its stunning beauty once more.

Someone sat atop a building near the edge of the city, looking out towards the large lake. They were surrounded by bloody towels and used bandages. It was Kagekao, he had managed to make it to the city and find medical supplies in time to dress his own wounds.

It had been around a week since they were attacked by the shinigami. He could remember each scene as if it had only happened moments ago. He could remember holding Sadie in his arms, and then watching as she drifted away from him forever.

Kage was alone now, completely alone.

“It’s such a beautiful night, Kage. So beautiful . . . I wish I could go on more walks with you on nights like this but . . .”

“オレもしたい . . .” (I also wish that . . .) Kagekao looked out at the lake. It had been such a beautiful night, it had seemed so perfect.

The moonlight was shining down, shimmering off of the water and outlining objects. Sadie had always looked so beautiful in the moonlight, Kage sighed. He desperately wished that he could see her again, at least one more time. At least enough time for a proper goodbye, to make her realize how much she meant to him.

Without her by his side, everything just felt so . . . empty.

But no, she was gone. Everything was different.

Kage looked up and a low growl escaped his throat.

It was all because of that shinigami.

Kage’s claws unsheathed, the moonlight glinted off of their sharp edges. It’s all that shinigami’s fault. Kage couldn’t stand idly by; he had to do something for revenge.

Kage stood up. His wounds still hurt, but it wasn’t too bad; not as bad as some of the wounds he had suffered before. Disregarding the bloody bandages and towels and leaving them behind, Kage jumped off of the roof and onto another.

On the next roof, before jumping down to the park; something caught his eye. Something was lying there, tossed away into a corner of the roof. He walked over to see what it was and grinned, picking it up. It was a large chain; not too long but not too short, it would be useful.

He reached the edge of the park, and made his way to the lake. Once again he saw the beautiful sight; just like that night. Part of him desperately wished that he could reenact that night. That he would go through the trees and see Sadie standing there. But of course, she wasn’t there. Kage was filled with grief, even though he knew that it would happen.

Kage walked along the pathway he and Sadie had walked, looking around. Through the woods and over that small bridge, he was flooded with memories of that day; but pushed them aside.

Finally he reached the area where they had fought, and where she had died. Walking over, he could see her in his mind; drenched in blood and dying. He could still see traces of blood on the ground.

Kage looked around and growled.

“オイ！” (Oy!) He snarled viciously, “野郎!” (You bastard!)

Kage looked around, only to be answered by silence.

“自分を見せて!!!” (Show yourself!!!)

There was a noise, Kage turned to look. Someone was coming through the trees. He immediately recognized him. Kage unsheathed his claws and changed his stance to a hostile one. He tightly gripped the chain in one of his hands, ready to use it.

“So,” Kuro Tamashi emerged from the shadows, gripping his scythe. “おまえとても死にたい？” (You really want to die?)

Kage hissed at the sight of him. Despite them both suffering grave injuries during their fight, Tamashi seemed to have recovered in full and was doing fine.

“おまえぜんぜん免れしない！” (There’s no way you’ll escape!) Kage hissed, “おまえ殺す！” (I’ll kill you!)

“Well,” Tamashi chuckled, “One down, one to go.”

“Fucker; you killed her!” Kage growled.

Tamashi was silent, but grinned.

“くそ、殺す！おまえ殺す！” (Shit, I’ll kill you! I’ll fucking kill you!) Kage snarled and got on all fours, and then pounced forward.

Tamashi drew back his scythe and then slashed it forward. Kage jumped back, avoiding the deadly blade, and then pounced to the side; grabbing onto a tree. Tamashi drew back his scythe and swung it forward again. Kage climbed higher, dodging the blade once again.

He hissed viciously at the shinigami, who hissed back and swung the scythe again. Kagekao dodged, and then hissed again; but didn’t make any moves to attack. Tamashi drew closer, Kage grinned. He whipped out the chain which was wrapped around his arm. Tamashi dodged to the side, but the metal links caught on one of the horns on the skull he wore and coiled around it.

Seeing this, Kage yanked the chain back towards him. It jerked and pulled the demonic ram’s skull right off of Tamashi’s face. The skull swung down on the chain and then got stuck in a tree trunk by its sharp horns. Tamashi snarled, baring his sharp fangs at Kage. He swung the scythe again towards him.

Kage jumped to get out of the way, but was held back by the chain; it was wrapped around his arm and the skull, which was stuck in the tree. The scythe came down and slashed Kage across the arm. Kage yelped in pain and began to try and get the skull out of the tree.

Tamashi, seeing in advantage, smirked and then swung the scythe again. Kage jumped back, dodging the scythe’s blade by an inch or two as blood ran down his arm. Tamashi drew back and swung it again, this time too close for Kage to dodge. Kage yanked on the chain with such force that the skull was pulled out of the tree and he fell back, dodging the scythe.

Looking up, Kage could see the large hole that the skull’s horns had left on the tree. The skull itself was a bit heavy, Kage grinned; he had an idea. Grabbing the skull he jumped into a tree. Tamashi snarled and stabbed the scythe forward. Kage dodged it, and then began to swing the skull on the chain.

Before Tamashi could swing the scythe again, Kage threw the skull forward like a deadly mace. Tamashi snarled and dodged to the side, but then screamed in pain. One of the skull’s horns hand impaled him at the base of one of his wings.

Kage cackled madly and then jumped away from Tamashi, yanking the chain with him. Tamashi roared in anger and then shrieked in pain; the skull was jerked towards where Kage had jumped, and yanked out of Tamashi; taking his wing with it.

Tamashi fell back into a tree as blood sprayed from his back and onto the area around him. Kage smirked and then picked up the skull, yanking the large, disembodied wing off of it and dropping it to the ground. He began to swing the skull again.

The wounded shinigami choked up blood, but then snarled as Kage approached him. He held up his scythe, ready to attack. Kage swung the skull forward and it rammed into Tamashi’s side; there were a few snapping sounds as the curved horns slammed into his ribs. Tamashi cried out in agony and dropped the scythe.

“ケケケー!” (-Laughter-) Kage cackled, “Not so tough now, ARE YOU!?” He swung the skull forward again, aiming higher this time. Too weak dodge, Tamashi was hit by full impact and cried out in pain. One of the longer, sharper horns near the top of the skull had impaled him right though his left eye.

Kage let go of the chain and watched as Tamashi writhed in agony, leaning against the tree. He waited for him to stop, and then reached down and picked up the scythe.

Tamashi stared at him with his remaining eye, unable to move due to the pain. Kage approached, and drew back the scythe.

“オレわ悪魔影顔さま,” (I am the demon Kagekao-sama) Kage snarled in amusement, “おまえの殺人者!!!” (YOUR KILLER!!!)

He swung the scythe forward, and it hit Tamashi right at the base of his neck; going through him and nailing him to the tree behind him.

Kage let go of the scythe’s handle, where it stood there; stuck in the shinigami and the tree. He watched as the moonlight glistened off of Tamashi’s blood stained body. Like all shinigami when they die, Tamashi’s body began to burn up; turning into a black smoke and drifting off on the wind. The only thing left was the chain, which fell to the ground.

While Kage did feel an overwhelming sense of pride and triumph; the feeling soon faded. He stopped looking at the now heavily damaged tree and turned around. He saw the lake, and he saw that small bridge.

Kage walked over and stood on the bridge, looking up at the moon. Sure, he had killed the shinigami, he had gotten revenge; but what did that solve? Sadie was still gone, he was still alone.

He sighed sadly and looked down at the surface of the lake. He could see his reflection, spattered here and there with blood. His arm still hurt, but he didn’t pay any mind to that.

Kage could remember when there were two reflections down there, but now there was just his own; all alone. He closed his eyes and leaned against the railing on the bridge. Now what was he to do? He supposed that life moved on, and it did; but it seemed that it was going to be so empty.

He opened his eyes and looked back down at the surface of the lake. He saw the moon’s reflection, the star’s reflection, a few from the trees, his own, and then a new one. He grew alert and looked down at the reflections again, and at that new one.

It appeared to be of some sort of mist at first, but it began forming into something; or rather, someone. Kage looked up from the water to where it would be, he supposed maybe his imagination was playing tricks on him; but it wasn’t.

There was the mist there, forming into someone. He stared, not knowing what to do. The mist began to take shape, first into a humanoid, and then into a woman; long blond hair, scars on her arms, one eye gouged out, the other one closed.

Her feet were a little above the ground when she was being formed. Kage slowly began to walk towards her, not believing his own eyes. And then he ran forward. The mist began to disappear, and she fell; but he caught her and held her in his arms.

“Sadie . . ?” He looked down at her; part of him told him that she was still dead. But she slowly blinked her eye open, and looked up at him.

“Kage . . ?”

“生きてる? Is it really you? Alive . . ?” (Living?)

She looked around and then back up at him. She lifted one of her hands and pushed his mask up, and then kissed him.

“Yes, it’s me” She said, tears of happiness welling up in her eye at seeing him again.

“Sadie . . .” Kage embraced her.

“Ah, emm, Kage? I seem to have, emm” She made a quick motion at herself.

“あ-” (Ah-) Kage noticed that she had regenerated without her clothes on, “ちょっとまて” (Hold on)

Kage took off his hoodie and then wrapped it around her.

“あ、血が . . .” (Ah, the blood . . .) He realized that one of the arms was soaked in his own blood.

“It’s fine, Kage,” She smiled, “Thanks”

He tried to help her up, but she wobbled on her feet and stumbled at the fact that she had just regenerated. So Kage sat down, helping her sit down as well. They looked up at the sky again.

“The moon is so beautiful” Sadie observed.

“月がきれい、” (The moon is beautiful) Kage looked over at her, “But nothing can rival your beauty”

Sadie blushed and looked at him.

“Sadie, 愛してる” (I love you) He leaned over and kissed her.

Through the night they sat there, gazing at the sky, looking at the beautiful lake, and simply enjoying each other’s company. It was the perfect ending that they had hoped for that night when the shinigami attacked them; they could finally experience it together. Although they didn’t blatantly address it, they both felt unfathomable joy at being together once again; for on their own, they were lost without the other.

They stayed by each other, not alone anymore.
