So you'd rather have her be the stereotype? I'm sorry, but this Web series has other species mingle peacefully with one another. It's not her fault she looks the way she does. Let the author do what they want with their character and don't shame them for that.

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 19:10:17 +0000 UTC]

I can Shame whoever I want, what's stopping me? A fandom of crying kids that can't take rude opinions like an adult? Hate to break it to you cupcake but that won't stop me at all, a Cyclops is depicted as a beast, a monster that kills humans from ancient mythos, and you classify a Cyclops that stays true to the way it was actually depicted through history is a 'stereotype'? That's essentially taking a toaster, but making it made of gold and instead toast pizza and saying that it's trying to not be a stereotype of what it was originally meant to be

Frankshooter53 In reply to chadtheferret [2018-01-15 19:19:14 +0000 UTC]

In the world of fiction, you can characterize anything you want to your imagination's content. You can literally take a rectangle and flesh it out into a believable character with feelings and emotion (Thomas Was Alone).

Mickey Mouse isn't scampering around on all fours looking for floor scraps. Sonic the Hedgehog isn't eating his own fecal matter. So why should this girl be a grotesque maneating monster? Look past the design and she's just that. A girl.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 19:40:36 +0000 UTC]

Yet a mouse or hedgehog are animals that can't be stereotyped as they are just that, animals. They do nothing other than what they do every dat of their life as have their kin. It is impossible to stereotype something that does nothing other than what it's always been seen to do. And taking two characters that are made to entertain people as examples aren't very good ones to defend your point. And a shape as well, can't be stereotyped, as It does nothing at all other than help in geometry, physics, designs etc, anyone can make a shape into a character, it's not hard whatsoever.

And design has nothing to do with how something has and will always meant to be a monster, just taking it, giving it feminine traits and such doesn't change the fact that it's a mythological creature that has and always will be depicted as a beast. Giving some thing a 'new skin' doesn't make it different

Take a look at shows like Demi-chan, Monster Musume, Undertale, Overlord, Supernatural, Charmed, Centaur's Life or any other media who paints monsters or demi humans in a light that breaks away from traditional portrayals. They're beasts yes, but instead of their status as monsters being the defining traits of what they are and what they society tells them to be, they are rather physical traits of people with feelings and emotion that help develop a story.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 20:03:39 +0000 UTC]

First of all: Undertale is as game that is cancer and so is it's fandom therefore making it useless in this regard, monster masume is a harem anime so of cpurse they will go out of their way to make the monsters be attractive to lonely people, something with the word "Chan" in its title can't be taken seriously, Supernatural has also been done to death by its cancer spreading and childish fandom, giving it the same reputation as Undertale to me, the other three are non existent where I live so therefore one can't make a conparison with those and my opinion.

And giving something "characteristics" doesn't make it different, a werewolf can be given the characteristics of a farmer, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a werewolf, it only makes it a werewolf with a farmer characteristic. And this is about brings that have been depicted in a certain way for millennia, not this nonsense of "demi-humans", they can be depicted in any way modern culture wants as they aren't exactly from mythology, unless you are trying to reference 'demi-gods'. And society surrounding something doesn't matter whatsoever as a society can only allow someone to act a certain way yet there will be those people who do whatever they want, yet going by the actual tales and stories that a creature was derived from doesn't mean it can change what so ever, medusa has always been depicted as a demon with serpentine hair that turns men to stone when they look at her, and ever since her tale she hasn't been depicted any other way, but by your logic she can be a little girl with normal hair and no abilities to turn men into to stone whatsoever because that's how someone wants to see her or that's how someone is breaking the "stereotype" of her actual story

Frankshooter53 In reply to chadtheferret [2018-01-15 20:10:11 +0000 UTC]

You just used cancer as a way to describe something while also judging another show by its name and name alone. Guess your argument no longer has value beyond that.

It's also funny how you used Medusa as an example when Soul Eater gets away with her not having snake hair, stone powers, and an aphrodisiac effect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 20:20:55 +0000 UTC]

You can't deny that something is cancerous, and although you may see my use if the word 'cancer' as making my argument worthless, then you might as well be as stubborn as a mule cupcake, everyone avoids the Undertale fandom due to the cancer it gives off and it's fans constantly attacking those that disagree with them, same with supernatural and its fangirls spreading all their fan stories as canon in the series.

And Soul Eater is just a one month trend that died out ages ago, it no longer applies as no one gives a birds ass about it anymore, the fandom has died. Besides, anime is the place where people take something and ignore all basic principles of decency and toss them out the window: incest? May be shunned upon by everyone except Indians andthe rednecks yet little girls going through puberty live it. A God that's been portrayed as cruel and evil throughout its origins and actual civilizations that creates them? Well guess what Fuck the truth we're making them a small kid who can't hurt a microbe. Monsters that are blood thirsty and vicious in majority of their mythos? Slap some tits and female traits on them they're now something that isn't them at all but still somehow is

You're just proving my point here. You can't let a community ruin something for you. That's why you have to experience it yourself. I used Soul Eater as an example not because of its relevance in the grand scheme of things, but because of its portrayal of Medusa.

Same could be said for Demi-chan and Monster Musume. The former talks about the clear difference between traits and stereotypes within demihumans like how the vampire in that show needs blood to survive and to stay out of the sun, yet having a fear of pumpkins doesn't apply to her or how the Dullahan is not a bringer of death, but someone who has to live with the struggle of having to carry her head around carefully wherever she goes. The latter giving the monster girls little bits of depth that apply to the animals they are based off of, like the Arachnid getting intoxicated from coffee like are real spider would or how the Lamia needs to stay in room temperatures because she's cold blooded.

Going back to what you said about animals being flexible enough to create characters off of applies the same way for mythical creatures and monsters. There's no special rule for them as they are just another tool for added character depth. Not every work of fiction has to be a history lesson.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 20:59:21 +0000 UTC]

And not every work of fiction had to forget about history, and don't use Percy Jackson or The Red Pyramid as an excuse as they disgrace Greek and Egyptian mythology,

And having people from a fandom threaten and attack you for not sharing the same opinion actually ruins it for anyone, even if I tried it, it still shows that the community surrounding you won't let you be what so ever. Any fandom ruins the experience of some thing, the only fandom I know of that literally hadn't ruined the thing it follows is the Gundam fandom. Hell the fandom itself is whY got me into it.

And portraying Medusa incorrectly is actually pretty annoying, because all your life you've been told that they've been a certain way, then comes some random person, changing them and then expect people to love it. While change is good you can't just change something from mythology like that.

And a vampire is just something that feeds off blood of people and can't go in the sunlight in general, with the exception of some teenage girl's fantasies.

And taking traits from real world counterparts just proves further that they're just animals, even if You give them human traits and characteristics, you can only do it so much before you begin to ruin your own creations.

Frankshooter53 In reply to chadtheferret [2018-01-15 21:09:54 +0000 UTC]

Maybe it's all because the world isn't entirely black and white, and creators and artists are only limited to their imagination. You ever thought of that?

If you're going to let historically inaccurate portrayals of fictional creatures ruin your day, then why go on Deviantart or any art sharing website at all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chadtheferret In reply to Frankshooter53 [2018-01-15 21:14:36 +0000 UTC]

Because I like art, even if I criticise it or say that it's terrible, I still like art.

Besides, it's also good to argue with others as it can help develop you as a person in knowing how and when to respect boundaries and others' points in their opinions and arguments while also learning how to defend yours in a mature way, even if You do act immature sometimes (not you but people in general). This was fun ^^ I don't mean this in any rudeness, but it's clear I lost the argument to you, but we do both have points that are just as important as the other, depending on how you look at it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Frankshooter53 In reply to chadtheferret [2018-01-15 21:23:55 +0000 UTC]

You're right about that. There's no shame in voicing something out as long as it doesn't hurt anybody. And if you can't stand a particular thing, like cringy drawings or whatever you find ugly or unappealing, it's best to just leave those be and move on to more important things in life.
