This is a guide of the basic anatomy and the physical differences that separate an Avatar hybrid from the Na’vi.
My personal suggestion is that you watch the movie too (if you haven’t already) . It’s a good movie.

Avatar means ’to descend’. Meaning when a god takes the form of a human and goes to earth. In this case however, it is a human taking the form of a Na’vi.

The Avatar body is an artificially created hybrid, grown in an amnio tank. The body has no personality of it’s own and is inert when not in human control.
Each avatar is specially made using the human pilot’s DNA. It is necessary to add the human genes to the link between avatar body and the pilot because an unmatched driver can’t connect with someone else’s avatar.

And because of the use of human DNA, the facial structure on an Avatar naturally resembles it’s human driver.

Foot notes:

**The queue on the Na’vi and Avatar is a bundle of neural interface on the base of the skull that is directly connected to the brain. It is used to communicate in a near telepathic connection. Especially with riding-creatures and Eywa.
The neural interface is protected within a meter-long braid.

Info taken from internet sites but mostly my own observation from the movie.

Jivra In reply to bishies-lover [2010-01-08 07:39:49 +0000 UTC]

I count in meters so feet is a bit out of my meture but I think it was 9 feet and the females are just a little bit shorter than the males.

There's something else you forgot to add--from human DNA, Avatar's body structures are more human-like and noticeably sturdier, where as the Na'vi are more willow from Pandora's low gravity but are four times stronger then average humans. An Avatar's skin tone is lighter, and the Na'vi has higher cheekbones and a smaller skull. This is just from the books and sites I've been at, and seeing Jake and Grace compared to the other Na'vi.

DrowElfMorwen In reply to FRASSY [2019-11-16 08:31:11 +0000 UTC]

I've never seen any skin tone difference between any Na'vi and Avatar in the movie, and I have studied their skins for a very long time for my own art. Cheekbones vary from face to face just as they do on humans; this is not an Avatar-versus-Na'vi feature. Looking at multiple background Na'vi shows this.

Jivra In reply to FRASSY [2010-01-07 14:01:05 +0000 UTC]

I know and thank you for pointing it out but I didn't have the space to add everything. Also I didn't want to write too much on the artist comment because not everyone likes to read it when its long.

The Na'vi in the picture do have higher cheekbones than the Avatar but again, I didn't have the space to add it.

Well, that makes me wonder, whether a true Pandoran would consider such an Avatar deformed. Like the way we see people with body disfiguration or something .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jivra In reply to CzechDave [2010-01-23 15:59:31 +0000 UTC]

A na'vi can see directly that it's an avatar but they don't think such things of disfigurations because what’s important to them is not looks. Therefore, they don’t care.
