Description I do not take credit for the drawing itself, the pencils/inking are not mine. This piece is meant to showcase my work in digital coloring.

My main tools when coloring are Photoshop and a Wacom tablet. I work mainly in channels when coloring.

Woah! This is a blast to the past. I think this is the first Sonic comic book I ever read when I was a kid. Very cool.

Did you scan this from the Sonic Legacy book? Whenever possible, see if you can get ahold of a hi-res scan of the actual art board. When I was just starting out, it was kinda' hard to get ahold of original art from these books. I ripped lineart from actual digital files initially, until I finally made it out to a con and bought some art from one of the pencilers. Nowadays it's so much easier. You can find alotta' pages priced reasonably on eBay, or contact a collector that wouldn't mind scanning a piece in for you.

Overall, I really like this. The rendering style suits Manak's drawings really well. Everything is a little too washed out, though. Pump those colors up! Keep your characters saturation higher than the backgrounds, as you don't want them to blend together. A great way to tell if your color values are too close together is to switch the image to grayscale. Like in panel 2 of page 1 (page 136) - make that rope a nice reddish-brown so it'll pop out to us.

Really dig the rendering style on this old art, though. Love especially how you handled the smoke and "Va-Va-Varoom" wooshes on page 2.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I seem to naturally lean to less saturated colors. I'll definitely make sure to keep an eye out for that. I'll make sure to keep that grayscale trick in mind too. I never even thought about asking a collector for a scanned image. Thanks for bringing that up. I really appreciate getting feedback when I can, so thanks bunch.
