Thanks, and to answer your question, in this particular case, absolutely zero. I dealt entirely with the production co-coordinator in NJ (partly by phone, mostly by email). I wouldn't take my experience as standard though as I've done very little work in the field. Ask someone who's been at it a while - I would guess any measure of success is accompanied by the kind of communication you're asking about.
