Reposting of adopted characterWhen she first arrived, I had originally thought Darcy mute. She was very expressive with her body language, perhaps overly so. But I could generally figure out what she wanted, if you didn't mind playing a few rounds of charades. She actually seemed genuinely frustrated that I couldn't understand her. As standing in midair, legs apart, fists on hips, I didn't have to guess too hard that she was angry about something. Apparently, the other fairies were much better at charades than I was as they seem to instantly understand her.
Ironically it was Tingaling who broke the communication barrier when she realized that Darcy's voice was pitched too high for humans to hear. Fortunately, the tinkers took that as a challenge and came up with a choker design that would lower her voice into a more easily heard human register, if still high pitched.
A fan of silent movies, Darcy had assumed that was how humans normally communicated with our voices being just noise.
