My favorite Avatar Original Character going full-blown Avatar State against all foes while protecting himself and the Banyan-Grove Tree, the heart of the Swamp.Qing is mentioned in the fan-series entitled "Avatar: The Unknown Soldier":

Hello and thank you so much for commenting and critiquing my work!
As you know that I do my best in capturing the illusion or effects of my piece. The fireball eruption, was one of the toughest aspects I had to execute because I wanted it to make it look believable and similar to that of firebending from the original series. Finding an illustrated fireblast was not easy to find in terms of detail. Even the water was kind of my gripe in designing this work. Drawing water through shape tools made it "dull" so I had to find waterbending and use it for interacting against the right metal shield that Qing is bending. Not to mention matching it with lighting.
I was hoping that you would critique more on the character's arms crossing each other. I was trying my best to execute human anatomy (in ATLA/LOK terms) for my character. I didn't want him to be unproportional if you know what I mean.
As for the rocks, yeah! In case you haven't completed the show, SEMI-SPOILERS, there is a new bending art, Lavabending: a subelement for Earthbenders to harness. Idk why it's meant for them rather than Firebenders since lava is comprised of fire and heat. Oh wait! It has molten rock and igneous in it....Nevermind!
That said, I like how you described hints of the Avatar State halo/glow. Well I am a devout Christian, and even if the series is based on Taoism/Buddhism/Asian Culture, I wanted to imply more of a spiritual aspect for the Avatar State, treating it like the Holy Spirit or an amplified living helper as he explores more in and out of the world.

Sorry for the delay! Back to update comment (hopefully not as long this time)
For the elements, another idea for you would be to take several reference pictures that best seem to fit your need and compose/arrange/merge them into the shapes you actually want. I think for fire bending looking up fictional "dragon fire" sprays would probably be best.
As for your anatomy, I think there is a little issue in the arms. It's not huge, but there is some tweaking. For one, both arms aren't the same length! I'm seeing the arms as if they are crossed pretty close, if not against, the chest. This means there would be minimal foreshortening of the upper arms, ye the upper arms look like they are each a few inches (as in, if the character was alive and standing right next to me inches) too short. No more than 2-3 inches each.
Then there's the forearms, and this is where the difference is more obvious. The arm closest to the chest is VERY long. On average (and this is not for all people, but it's a good guideline) a persons forearm and upper arm are the same length if you don't count the hand. That back arm is at LEAST 40% longer than the upper arm it's attached to. That said, the hand placement IS possible - if that upper arm was coming more severely across the chest (elbow closer to the center of the body - but not full-center). The elbows should end just bout at the bottom of the ribcage or at the waist (the skinniest part!) if no foreshortening is happening.
The torso is a TAD on the long side compared to the other proportions (head, upper arms), but it's within a believable margin, IMHO.
As for the spirit stuff, I can see how the way you've done it reflects that, but only in your telling. The white glow DOES reflect a purity, though, and that works well with any such representation of a more wholesome spirit form.
Hope that helps a bit more!

Oh I see! I had problems in tinkering well with the anatomy. Yeah I wanted it to be equally proportional show-wise, but yeah I noticed that the arms aren't the same length and the body doesn't look evenly placed. Let's just say I'm bad at making the whole body "well-done." Some refinements has to be done. Even one of the viewers mentioned that the figure of the OC is flat when placed into the background and in-between the metal shields. So I tried to do it again by placing a drop shadow and inner shadow on the character.
As for the elements, that would be cool doing a reference of a "dragon fire" spray. That would be massive.
Anyway thank you for the critique and I will continue to make more fanart again soon! In the meantime, please feel free to look at my recent stuff.

Don't fret too much, practice makes better (lets be real, we're artist, we almost never think our stuff is good, even though it is ) Proportions and anatomy just take some times. Your minds eye and your actual eye don't always see the same way and they they both want to tell the hand what to do. It's all part of the process!
That said, if you ever want me to look something over, you can always comment, tag or note me! I can't guarantee quickness, but I will reply!

It really does! Sometimes going out of the box helps too, like trying a different style or medium (like sculpting!)
Have fun and practicing!

If I saw this guy and found out he's the avatar... I'd probably leave bricks on the floor. XD! The scar is very identifying and it's also very suggestive about the character. If he was apart of a comic or the TV series, then as a reader/watcher, I'm very interested in his back story. How did he get that scar? Or is it apart of his tribe/clan/family lineage? I also think he has a very interesting choice of weapons. The overall concept and theme of your creation I think is very clear to me. I also feel that it's perhaps a bit busy. Overall, I do think I seem to understand that you're perhaps trying to show me that he is a powerful avatar- perhaps his battle prowess is extremely high compared to past avatars? I also enjoy how you are trying to capture that motion picture/dynamic battle scene a lot. ^_^ Thanks for showing this.

Well, every Avatar has their own story, of course; however, unlike Aang who's spiritual and energetic or Korra who's strong and proactive, Qing is more broken and persistent. I want my Avatar to be complex, but also interactive and relatable. I am not going to put any spoilers, but the reason why he has the scars is because he had them since he was very young and it will revolve in his growth and mentality and you'll see the symbolism of his scars once we get to see the origins of his story as well as his role in the Avatar.
As for the weapons, they can tell a story just like Aang's Glider and Kyoshi's fans. Qing's crutches/nightsticks once belonged to his late foster father and this would imply well in bending. Look up Ninja Gaiden II: Tonfas on YouTube, you'll see how where I'm going at.
Haha, that's cool, if by slim miracle Bryke would use my character in the comics/TV show, I want the whole of Team Avatar to be relatable and interactive just like Marvel Avengers and Lord of The Rings. I don't care if they changed the names, or certain looks, as long as they bring in more creative writers and screenplay artists just like ATLA. Plus I can dream, but I wish Joss Wheedon, Kenneth Brannagh, and Russo Brothers could direct a few episodes for the series because I want it to be adventurous and complex for a kid's show like ATLA and a little bit of LOK.

Avatar Wan was the best part of LOK. That says a lot about the series xD
ATLA is our favourite too!

As for LOK:
Wan, Mako, Bolin (a little bit), Tenzin, Eska, Lin Beifong, Hiroshi Sato (I don't know why?), and P'li (if she had more development).

Zuko, Toph, Azula, Ursa, Aang, Appa.
We also have multiple OCs for the ATLA world.

The OCs many would argue ruin the story, but ehh. They would add an extra series, invent time travel and go to the moon. Beat that. xD
Besides. A LOK crossover would be hilarious. The pranks that could be played on Jinora alone are worth it.

And it's so cool that his scar glows in the Avatar State as well as eyes

Yes, that's how I wanted it to be since Bryke stated in the documentary that they wanted the series to be a mix of Miyazaki films with cinematic angles.
Plus for Avatar Qing, I wanted have a scar not only for design, but based on his background arc. Like Aang's arrow tattoos or Zuko's scar. Something like that. There's also an OC character chart if you haven't seen it.

Thank you, it took me awhile to execute this artwork. I wanted to show how powerful he is in the Avatar state by metal bending shields from a mechatank he took down, against enemy fire while going to lavabend stones to ricochet as a counterattack.
Pretty cool huh?

Pretty cool! The pose is nice, as well as the way the elements are place around him. I do have one question though, what are those lines on his face? Are those scratches or is that meant to be shading?
