Description Piece I did for class. We had to do self portraits that transform into something else in three images. I ended up making all three images combine to form a larger one. I had a lot of fun and I have to change some things to better fit the assignment but this is the version I'll be posting.

That's very cool. I was looking at the picture and the most noticeable thing is the technique for me. Don't get me wrong, the idea and the composition are full of thought but I just really love those little organic details you add here and there. I think I'm gonna try this for myself as well, but still not sure with the medium. If I do it digitally I can explore the idea very far, but if I do it in oil I might show it at school and get feedback from teachers. I'm not sure how they will respond to the idea so I'm torn here.

What about those geometric shapes, was that a part of the assignment?

Always tough to figure out what mediums to use haha!

But no they were not, the assignment was just about representing change in yourself and I thought the shapes might help to exemplify that too.

Thank you and go for it! This was an assignment for me too and everything here is a metaphor. I recommend just thinking important things to yourself and drawing inspiration for that since I'm sure what I used wouldn't be relevant haha!

Why thank you. I attended the Art Institute of Portland for around 4 years and I was a major in Animation there - but I focused on illustration (they didn't have a degree for it). Then at the beginning of this year I ended up switching to PNCA for illustration with the advice of one of my instructors. I gotta say though - the way the school is structured here just really isn't for me I don't think - it's a little too free and open which makes me feel like I learn less week to week.

Also I took a class on tutormill.com with Yuko Shimizu - it's super rad! You can take 6 week courses with really big illustrators and it's fairly cheap!

The use of shapes and the organic metamorphosing into something new-almost appearing like crosshairs shooting life into someone-going from a triangle to a circler reincarnated life form.

This is so lovely and gorgeous, from the change from the triangle to circle, to the expression in the middle portrait, to the sweeping blue in the background and the increasing plants in the front. I am also quite fond of the texture on top
