Description Ulmo from the Silmarillion. I was told to draw my favorite Valar for the Silmarillion project so here he is. Not exactly my greatest but definantly my latest.

This is really great!! Not quite my own vision of him (I've always had the image of a bearded, humanoid, titan-like entity), but certainly an excellent and unique interpretation. I am getting a strong 'Greek pantheon'-vibe from this, probably from the bare, youthful, muscular body and the Mediterranean-looking helmet. This also has a sort of superhero-motif to it, like Captain America or someone similar. That is not a criticism at all mind you, I am delighted that your interpretation is such an uncommon one.
The technical aspects of this are really stunning, I've seldom seen cleaner Traditional lineart, and Ulmo's whole anatomy here looks like it's from a biology book, it's so realistic. And your choice of colours! Really wonderful blending of blue and green, as *mistressofspam noted, they are so clearly representant of the Sea! And I like how you've used that colour only with the bottom part of the character, so the use of the colour isn't overbearing but rather subtle and still powerful. The pale colour choice for his skin is nice too, it reflects the coldness of the waters of Belegaer.
If there's anything I don't like about this piece, it must be the helmet.. Although there is nothing wrong with it technically, and though in relation to the Greek prototype it is very fitting, it transaltes as something a little too warlike. Ulmo was known and noted for his love of the EruhΓni and his companionship and compassion with and for them, and he was never an advocate of war.

In any case, you've re-created a really special and unique character in an equally special and unique manner. Ulmo is probably my favourite Vala too, and it is really great to see him portrayed otherwise than in the way I've always pictured his physical form. Bravo!!

Wow thanks dude. Originally I pictured him with a beard but for some reason I didnt give him one. I'm glad you approve of the anatomy so much. O yea, his skin is blue in teh picture, the pale stuff is supposed to be his mail, which is supposed to be silvery white looking. Eventually I'm going to draw Osse and his wife, and he will have a beard. Morgoth is on the list of Valar to draw and maybe Yavanna for a second time. Thanks for stopping bye.

Wow sounds great, good luck with your efforts!
Ah his mail eh? Yes I can see that.. Quite skin-tight though, I wouldn't have assumed it was anything beyond a tight shirt of clothing.. Well, great job though.

Love the way you've blended the colors up, green to blue. Nicely done.
