That's actually a wonderful thing to do. It adds dimension, depth, and character into your artwork (well, it does for non-fandom-based OCs, but you can pull it off fairly well for fanart). I can admire that. Very well done.

Yeah, thats true! I guess works really well for the characters i use. Link for example, they don't really give him a strong personality in the games, instead the players put themselves in the shoes of Link. I can make Link serious, or i can make him jolly and it will work most of the times. That freedom is really nice

I can't do fanart, because I feel as though I'm stealing someone else's hard work. I also don't hail to any fandoms, solely because of that. All of my OCs came from months of thought, historic events, elements of good books, some fun accents, my obsession with albinos, and 14 sleepless nights. There was more to them than that, such as Ripley's Believe it Or Not, and some cool black magic I picked up as a kid, perhaps even from science class. Either way, they are very complex. Anyway, I think you could create a very solid character with what you have going on right now with personality traiting.

Well i think thats part of life a bit too. When creating something you only have your life experiences to go from^^ Sure i enjoy creating original things, but i guess i feel much more attached to Link than any character i created myself. And the since it's art it will always have my personal touch to it. In the end i really enjoy drawing fanart, i love seeing my favourite characters in scenarios that wouldnt appear in the games.
It's also a great way to reach out to people who share liking for the same characters^^
However i can also relate to why it could be seen as cheating (or maybe even stealing) since using already famous characters basically is taking a shortcut. Getting more views etc. But it's not the reason I draw fanart, it's because i love the games and the characters.
I don't see it as stealing, in the end it's about sharing a common interest in a bigger community^^ (And it's not like i would sell any of my drawings haha)
