Description A basic tutorial on how to use magnets in poser. This tutorial assumes you are somewhat familiar with poser already, ie you're happy with moving things around, showing parameter dials etc.

This was made in Poser 7 but I think magnets work pretty much the same in any version, possibly even back to version 4, although details of the interface may have changed somewhat.

Have fun ^_^

Awesome! I've been using magnets for years, but I never knew about "Choose Element to Deform", so I was always making semi-duplicate magnets for adjacent body parts. Thanks!

couple fast notes for completeness
The size of the base does affect the relative strength of the magnet. bigger base = stronger. location affects ti some but not as much as size

Poser magnets can be used as DS dformers if you remember the following: poser places the magnets effect on where the clothing is in its unmorphed/deformed state. DS makes the effects cumulative, so it deforms the mesh where it is at the time of magnet placing.

You can alter the 'shape' of the magnetic field. I generally only do this with breast magnets as they tend to need sharper deformations

There are a number of free python scripts to automate magnet use and application.

All my magnet kits have tutorials in them to show you how to use them.

Good starter tutorial!

Thank you! I didn't know moving the base affected the results, but I know scaling it does. I think figured for the tutorial it would be obvious when you scaled the base that the size of the effect had changed, so I only mentioned that in passing.

That's interesting about DS deformers. I've never really used DS but I'd like to try, so I'll bear it in mind. I think I have modified the shape of the field a couple of times, but I don't use magnets very often.

I have used your kits before! They're wonderful.

Can you apply a magnet to a mag zone? I've been reshaping mag zones using xscale/yscale/zscale, but if it's possible to actually deform a mag zone, that opens up all kinds of possibilities!

well you can, and it looks like it works .. but nothing happens.

Netherworks sets often replace the base magnet set with the 'targomagnet' shape .. all it does is give you a set of crosshairs in the circle/sphere so you can aim better,

However in the announced release of poser 10, you can add weight maps to magnets. which should be very interesting.

I've never dug into deformers much... and my work shows it. Hopefully this will help me out. Very clear and concise tute. Thanks.

Thanks for the tutorial, I have been struggling with magnets. When Aiko 4 came out, I bought the magnet set to fit clothes to her figure...but...I have not successfully used them LOL.

You can make your life a LOT easier with a couple of handy python scripts when you use them:
[link] - use this after you've applied the magnets to the clothing to spawn morphs in the clothing figure, and [link] the magnet deleter script for getting rid of the magnets when you've done that.

I think if you look in daz's forum you may find more help... and ~Lyrra has an account here, too
