Another definition of a "Bird of Prey"...
Good job!

Poor goat! :< Lel. This creature is scary looking and awesome. I've always loved the 70s-pants styled fluff large birds of prey had going on. XD So how long does it normally take for you to come up with a concept like this? O: Do you sort of pick one idea or animal you want to base it off and work from there? Is it more of a "I have this purpose in mind for a creature, so let's design a creature that can fulfill what I'm looking for" or does that come after the concept? O:

jocarra In reply to GoldFlareon [2015-01-14 11:00:14 +0000 UTC]

XDΒ  Yeah, I needed something to give an impression of its size :b

The concepts are generally given to me by the art director - sometimes it's really vague and open-ended ("Make a celestial fox" = ), and other times it's very specific ("We need a bunny-girl with large round ears that point backwards, a central, high-set unicorn-like horn, tiny hands, bunnylike feet without being true digitigrade - they need to look young and girlish, mostly humanoid, and be very hip-heavy" = )

When I go to create the creature, I usually think about where it lives, what kind of creature it is (predator, magical creature, sentient race, hated troublemaking race vs proud warrior race, etc.), and what its different features' purposes might be, how it might "work".Β  I consider what the art director wants and needs for the creature, and what I think will be the best way to go about satisfying the director's needs and making a distinct, interesting creature concept with design elements that at least partially make sense :b

Served you well. xD

Ooh, I see. Do you prefer to have the freedom of design, or be told more specifically what's required?

That's the way I imagined it to be honest. Seems to make the most sense. So interesting to hear about though.

I like a combination of both.Β  If told to just "DRAW ANYTHING" it's sort of bewildering, because as a job, well... I want to know WHAT the job is exactly.Β  I like knowing the goals and objectives, so I have things to aim towards and themes to keep in mind.Β  Some artists only work in one or two particular styles, with one or two particular subjects (people who draw ONLY pokemon, or people who draw ONLY cell-shaded wolves), but I am pretty versatile and try to be able to work in many, so... just telling me to MAKE SOMETHING isn't specific enough :b

Yeah, for sure. I think it'd be pretty difficult to go by very little instruction. xD I suppose doing a lot of their creatures helps, though, since you may be able to match the style or predict the response. Yeah, makes sense! Versatility is very important. xD Well thanks for the answer! :]

Thanks!Β  Didn't want it to end up looking like just a gryphon, or just a bird anthro, but something... different :b

I dunno about the rock.Β  What do you think he uses for grit? :S

Note to self: What ever his tail length is, be sure to stay at LEAST twice that distance away from this guy at all times. Β  Also, don't move, it'll only get his attention. Heh.Β  (As the quote goes; Don't bother running, you'll just die tired.)

Well done overall, you make the conformation look believable!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to CarpeDraco [2014-05-15 19:02:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, his tail looks pretty unfriendly :b

Reminds me of the quote from The Last Unicorn: "Never run from anything immortal; it attracts their attention."

CarpeDraco In reply to jocarra [2014-05-15 23:09:13 +0000 UTC]

Indeed!Β  And yes, I thought of that quote too, but didn't know if your feathered friend was an immortal, or just a really large critter.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to CarpeDraco [2014-05-16 22:14:38 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't think it's immortal, but yeah

So glad we don't have birds like that flying around, or we might end up as dinner on more then one occasion. Β Great creature, but i feel bad for the goats

*chuckles* Roc-sized monsters that could carry off horses? Yeah, probably for the best.

Well, think of it this way.Β  That bird can definitely carry a coconut.Β

....Although I am not certain how that would help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to Siochanna [2014-05-15 18:46:37 +0000 UTC]

That way coconuts don't have to migrate.

Troublesome business, migrating coconuts.

*looking at its tail* apparently, this burd has yet to meet a goat from goat sim.

ok, but really, this guy looks like he might hold some intelligence, yet still be a violent and dangerous beast.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to HuffingtontheOnly [2014-05-14 22:16:15 +0000 UTC]

*nods* He sort of seems like the type that, even if he's a bit intelligent, can't be bothered when he can just go around being bigger and tougher than everyone else :V
