Description
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for. Here's another cold-loving critter - this one tunnels through ice and snow, then ambushes surface-dwellers from below, pelting them with shards of ice it stores in its gullet.Β I was vaguely inspired by blubbery beasts like belugas and manatees, but it probably doesn't show much :b

Kind of reminds me of the Graboids from Tremors. Nice work on the worm!

It's a pretty interesting series and the graboids are a very unique species despite being fictional.

Β I just love Creature Design! So many creative make believe creatures are made year after year!Β Β In this case, I love how this one appears to be influenced by both worms and whales alike. At first, I thought the hair was influenced by horse manes, but after reading your description, I could be wrong.

Thanks so much! Β The mane wasn't reeaaally inspired by any particular creature, I don't think - I think I mostly just wanted to give it a shaggy feature, which seemed somehow suiting on an arctic creature, and thought a mane might be neat.

My first thought was of that famous picture of a fox halb buried in the snow while huntig mice.
Afterwards i imagined him facing this worm while hunting and... yes, i guess the outcome would be quite clear. XD
It will be very hard to fight this one, since the eyes as a weak spot aren't there. I guess the big sack under his maw could be a vulnerable point.

Haha, yeah, that's a fun photo
I'm not so sure!Β I think the gullet/craw might be extra tough, as that's where it stores all the crushed bits of ice and rock.

I feel like it'd probably give a pretty bumpy ride (especially while tunneling underground :V)

Actually, the inspiration is noticeable, both in it's overall shape, and in specific areas like it's throat - which decidedly reminds me of a mature bull walrus.Β

They require huge sacrifices....and death. Lots of death.
