Description
Player class artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for. This one took me a little while, if only because we weren't sure at first of her overall direction and feel. In the end, though, we arrived at something I think sufficiently conveys the class character: shrine keepers are a fighter-caster class, kind of a cross between a monk and a shaman, who have a symbiotic relationship with the spirits of the world.
They ensure the health and balance of local spirits, psuedo-deities bound to particular places and concepts, and in turn can draw upon their power to fight and channel magic. Their weapons serve in both traditional combat roles, as well as tools with which they interact with and channel the spirits around them: inspired by shakujos and other Buddhist/Shinto trappings, they bear 6 rings bound by a 7th, representing the six major cosmic forces bound and balanced by Astral magic, and often have bells, charms, prayer beads or magical lanterns affixed to them, guiding spirits to them, who in turn, guide the shrine keeper in life and combat.
I was originally given a more traditional caster direction, drawing more from Japanese shrine maidens and shinto priests as inspiration, but as the team felt it didn't properly convey their martial abilities, she was entirely redone with more a more monk/wushu feel.

You've portrayed them nicely
I can feel the power emanating from the weapon and caster

This class is really awesome! I always hoped for such classes, since this kind o magic hasn't been used often yet, you can do fancy stuff with it and moreover you have some nice possibilities to roleplay with others and speak with some "pseudo deities"

Thank you very much! There are actually going to be at least two classes that use spirit magic - shrine keepers (whose spell-casting is more like D&D sorcerers) and shamans (whose spell-casting is more like D&D wizards).

Haha, thank you! I'm sure the rhyme helps, though If it's of any interest, it's sort of a cross between a naginata (a Japanese sword-on-a-stick, basically) and a shakujo (a Buddhist staff with rings on the end) :3
lol, yes, probably :V And now I'm seeing visions of her channeling spirits into the wounds, and, like, them taking over/possessing the victim in a super-cool/creepy/visceral version of mind-control :V

"Sword-on-a-stick" sounds like something you order in the drive through. Like, free "katana with combo!" or something
Ooh, that sounds toooootally creepy and awesome

Ugh, don't go for the free katana with combo deal. You can only enjoy so many katana-shaped toothpicks.

I completely understand. The pirate cutlass ones are so much better, if you ask me. I mean, katanas are fun and all, but they're useless for downloading mp3's.

Very cool. i really love the colors, and the spirits look really cool. She seems so calm, and disciplined just waiting for the right moment to move.

Thank you!
Also, have you ever tried posing like that? It's a pain to hold for very long >_>

I have not ever tried to pose like that. I would imagine it is very painful.

*chuckles* It's actually not the positioning itself that's painful. It's more staying in a calculate crouch like that can be brutal on the thighs :V A friend of mine who started wushu a few years back was saying how they'd have to practice just standing in horse stance, nothing else, just as training for everything else :b
