Jun. 16, '10My wrist is feeling a little better today. Still stings if I bend it back a little, but it doesn't hurt to draw anymore at least. Anyway, in an effort to see if I could get back into the swing of things, I decided to draw something random. That random thing ended up being fanart (how unusual).
For those of you who don't recognize her, this is young Rydia from Final Fantasy 4. I guess it's not so random, when you think about it; Rydia IS one of my favorite characters in anything ever. It's partly nostalgia-induced, I admit, but she's proven to be a rather timeless character for me. Two decades after seeing her for the first time and I still think that she alone is one of the major reasons I'm so obsessed with strong characterization in my writing.
As far as the picture itself is concerned, I'm a bit surprised that it came out as well as it did, seeing as its the first thing I've drawn in two weeks. I mean, it's hardly perfect, but I think I certainly captured her adorability. ^_^
I've fallen terribly behind in my work due to my wrist, but at least it seems I'm back in action. I hope you're all as excited as I am. ^_^

Fun Fact:
I don't do fanart very often, but this is actually the third time Rydia has appeared in my gallery; and the second time for young Rydia. There's no particular preference for her as opposed to her adult form or anything. It really is pretty random actually. Maybe the next time I decide to be random we'll see her as adult again.

I'm playing FF4 at the mo but I believe the evil doll monster got me or the boss afterwards so I'm giving it a loooong break before going back - then again I am playing the DS version which has the evil ATBS - I think its called? And I hate things which time me it puts me off the game ¬_¬
Rydia's so sweet~ But she dies so many time when you first get her :/ so I had to build her up a LOT before getting Tellah...

Yeah, the DS version is pretty rough (particularly that fight too, as I recall). And yeah, I hate being rushed by a timer or something too. -_-

Ugh! A sandworm killed me in the desert because the characters (Rydia, Dark Cecil) wouldn't react quick enough. D: In previous titles it wouldn't have killed me....ugh so unlucky I got used to it but I still hate it >.<" . That's why I dislike the Mario games with the timer (actually most games with a timer)although I liked the Mario game where you get the Raccoon suit :3

She really is a memorable character, both in pain and in joy. She really deserves more fans. Glad your wrist is better, but we hurt for what we make I guess. To me it was hard to figure out if she was happier as a child or an adult, but I guess if she's still surrounded by Cecil and his comrades, she can find a reason to be happy. Love the pastel color for her child phase, makes her seem sweeter in personality than the deep moss green of her adult phase

Truthfully, I would classify her as the most complex and developed character in the game, even over Cecil. She experiences various emotions, has a wholly legitimate fear, and develops a great deal. I remember hearing once that 75% of the script was scrapped for the game, which has made me speculate just how much more there may have been to her character even.
As for my wrist, my sentiments exactly. I suffer for the love my art and my will to please my friends and fans. Well, maybe "suffer" is a bit of an extreme word, but you know what I mean. ^_^

Yeah, I heard about that. It really was because the technology was a little limiting to the story. They added more of the script in the DS version, but I still love the look of the 16-bit era. I agree with you on Rydia, but these personality traits would never be known if we just followed her. And if anything, she really needed to teach Cecil to forgive as much as Rosa, Kain, and even Ceodore/Theodore/Golbez. Not trying to prove I'm right, just love hearing how others think of things.
And yeah, if you didn't love your work enough, you wouldn't be on this sight to begin with. To feel pain is the basis of understanding your characters.

I thought you might be especially interested in the link displayed on the main page's update. The creator of the comic wants to do a radio play, and therefore requires voice actors. I remember us talking about voice acting one time, so... tada!
