Description Soon I Will Be Invincible is a fun book, with a lot of interesting characters and spends an awful lot of time inside the head of the main villain, Dr. Impossible. This is my interpretation of the character.
When I did this drawing, I penciled and inked the figure of Dr. Impossible first, then started adding background. It was an interesting way to work, and I may have to try it some on my comic strips.

I just got a copy of the British version of Soon I Will Be Invincible with the nice Bryan Hitch art. I'm convinced that the book would have sold better in the US with the art and better cover of the Penguin Books edition. Never liked that cover on the US edition.

I started reading the damn thing again, yesterday. Trying to get a better handle on some of the characters. I want to do Rainbow Triumph, if I can get an idea of her to come together.

i know she has a lot of cables...i imagine her very thin. OH and there is an impressive pic of Blackwolf somewhere in the vast internet and...i could not get into fatale really she just did not interest me enough. Doctor Impossible reminds me of alot of people summed up in one person

I still think this book would make a damn good movie. The Special FX are easy enough to do, these days, that they're able to do them on TV. Might even be better as a mini-series. That way you could drag it out so you don't lose all the internal monologue from Dr. Impossible and Fatale.

true..a televison series would be verry good even if it only ran for a few seasons or even 1 and if it was an over budgeted movie i dont think Grossman would even want it to be an over the top movie

I think, for a lot of these kinds of things, a TV series is better. comics are an episodic medium and it would feel more like the genre if it was allowed the time to develop. I'd think a miniseries or a series like Spartacus or Game of Thrones would be best. Ten or twelve episodes gives you the time to really fill out your characters without having the danger of those dead, filler episodes you get in longer seasons.

I just finished reading SIWBI for the third time, tonight. The scene where Impossible takes off his mask and CoreFire just doesn't recognize him...heh, it's the reason I've never gone to a class reunion, because I fear that would be me.

lol that was semi best part.. like his whole lifes work wasted. it was funyn he remember professor Burke but not Impossible/Jonathan. i like when Lilly revield to be Erica. i kinda feel bad for him i think he actually does love her but he is just to occupied with his crime career i think he is a hero in his own way. same with all villains. sure they loose but they are so determined no one knows or understand villains go throught to make these grand devices and for a hero to come along... if i were a super villain i would rent my devices except for my weapons and henchmen those i would desing

The description of the fight between Dr. Impossible and CoreFire, before he brings out the Hammer of Ra, is hilarious. The running around consoles and such, reminds me of the villains on the Venture Brothers.

I think a lot of people are stuck in Jr. high for life. Unresolved issues stalk us throughout our lives, I guess.

It'd be funny to examine a bunch of classic comic villains and see what they were like at 13.

hmm well it describes Dr. Impossible as semi anti socical and bit of a sociopath. But verry little of Fatale

I'm just thinking...Dr. Doom, in Jr. High science class, presenting his science project, "Hark, cretins! This is the life cycle of the runner bean!"

Isn't Dr. Doom the ruler of Latveria(a country from Marvel)

Sure, but he wasn't always the ruler of Latveria. He was in school with Reed Richards in college, I figure he had some kind of somewhat traditional schooling. And, he was probably picked on by the jocks and cool kids, for his foreign accent and because he was smarter and handsomer than them.

They never know who is going to be looking at them throught a mask ten years later. Oh would you be interested in hearing a super villain joke ??

Heheh. I bet most death rays started out as universal remotes, or coffee makers.

Very cool. I just finished listening to the audio book and I found I really wanted him to win. It was cool getting inside the head of a super villan, seeing why they do what they do. This is a wonderful image, looks like it came right off a comic book.

Thanks!
I've read the book a couple of times now and have really enjoyed the insight into the workings of the super-criminal mind. It's a different take than most comic villains, yet oddly familiar.
Also recommend Devil's Cape for a different take on prose super-heroes. Rob Rogers is the writer.

Read it twice, now.
On You Tube, there's a video done by some actors as an audition piece, where they adapt part of the book. I later saw the guy playing the villain in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. It was one of those, "Hey! I know that guy!" moments.

Check out "Devil's Cape" by Rob Rogers, too.

I almost forgot I love the robot in the background! I always had a hard time imagining what he looked like, I know he talked a lot about what he looked like but I never envisioned it.

Thanks, I've read the book twice and really enjoyed it. I can't get a handle, visually, on some of the characters, but Dr. Impossible I nailed, I think.
