At first, they hardly appeared, but when they did, they were standing together as often as not. People started to ship them because of that, and then the writers got in on it more and more.

Actually, the name of the yellow pony is Sweetie Drops. Bon Bon is the name of a G1.5 pony.

These pictures (and title names) were created during a time where the Background Ponies did not have actual names. The fans were during the naming at the time (such as Derpy Hooves for well, Derpy). Sweetie Drops is indeed Bon Bon's name. But as with most fans, we'll still call her by that. As for Vinyl Scratch, DJ Pon-3 was an assumed stage name. We just named her Vinyl Scratch because reasons.
