Description Was going to go to bed after a long day of commissions, but I felt like I had to get this out of my system. Couldn't think of a better representation than Cap.

Thoughts and prayers go out to any and all the souls affected by the senseless tragedy that happened 11 years ago today. We will never forget.

Inspired by a really cool Mass Effect print I saw on Reddit:

Great piece. Love the opaque, transparent style to it. Thanks for linking the original sources.

Thoughts and prayers to those still affected, especially those who are suffering from medical conditions due to the exposure mix of debris, chemicals, and materials.

Steve Rogers is a native NY-ker so this hit home.

I don't have words, but this is beautiful and powerful and I love how simple yet complex it is. That might not sound exactly right, but like I said, I have no words.
I want to say thank you, but I feel like I almost don't have the right to.

All the same, here's to ya and the rest of New York.

Thanks much, my friend. And don't be silly -- You live in America, and have the right to say whatever you feel! That's kind of what the spirit of today is all about -- enduring and rebuilding our lives in the USA.

And thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you got a kick out of it.

Such a sad occasion and a terrible tragedy. I'm glad you were able to pull such a beautiful piece out of your thoughts about it.

Thanks, Melissa. Every year today, I never really know what to do or how to feel. It's kinda similar to how I felt in 2001. Still a shocking disbelief/numbness. This is the first year I feel like I was able to focus how I actually felt.

Hope you and yours are doing well if you guys lost anyone.

This is very tasteful. I can't really believe it's already been 11 years. That wound seems pretty raw every time 9/11 rolls around.

I am very much opposed to the idea of elevating the deaths that took place there to martyr status, when there are tragedies, some larger in scope, happening every year in all parts of the world.

That said, I love the technical aspect of this image

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to blood-dodo [2012-09-11 09:22:36 +0000 UTC]

Understandable, Nick, but this happened on my doorstep. Ive lived in New York my entire life. And there were many heroes that day that fill me with a great sense of pride to be a New Yorker, an American, and a human being. For the rest of my life, I am going to remeber the events of that day.

Please understand that I dont look back on this tragedy as more important or more gruesome than any other loss of innocent life, but it was the largest tragedy that was closest to home for me, and I saw it happen live. For that reason, it simply has more of an impact on me.

And thanks for the kind words on the technique.

blood-dodo In reply to JoeHoganArt [2012-09-11 09:45:04 +0000 UTC]

Understandable, and I meant no disrespect, a tragedy is a tragedy whether there was a single victim, or a thousand. I also didn't single you out, but american media in general. All we seem to hear about is 9/11. Will there be a commemoration, reflected in mass media, for the Aurora shooting, for a recent example? I doubt it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to blood-dodo [2012-09-11 17:46:51 +0000 UTC]

I hear you, my friend. I'll agree 100% that our media picks and chooses what to leave out and what to blow out of proportion. It's a joke. The rest of the world is much more educated in current events as a result of it. Journalism, actual journalism, is dying in this country. What is fed to us is determined by the people of power.

Actually, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a memorial service in the media for the Aurora shooting, similarly to the Columbine shooting over 10 years ago. It's difficult for me to know how much the rest of the country and how much the rest of the world hear about the September 11th attacks simply because I still live here, and since most of what is reported on (families who have lost loved ones, health issues of first responders/survivors, etc) affect the people that live here, it isn't a surprise or irrelevant to us. All of our News stations are broadcasting out of Manhattan, you know? At no point have any of us said "alright, enough already!" because you'd be hard-pressed to find someone here that doesn't know someone who lost a loved one, or had a survivor in the family/as a neighbor. It's pretty crazy, actually.

Wasn't just America that was attacked either, there were people of several different nationalities working in those towers on that day I see it more as a world tragedy, and you're right, nobody deserves that. Well said.

And this is a great tribute Joe

JoeHoganArt In reply to Quinn-G [2012-09-11 17:36:51 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. Monsters walk among us. Whether or not you agree with our policies, attacking a civilian location in the hopes of murdering thousands of innocent people is heartless and cowardly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quinn-G In reply to JoeHoganArt [2012-09-11 19:59:00 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I never said I despised the US or anything like that. I can hardly imagine what losing so many people in a single stroke must be like. I think I remember you mentioning you're a New Yorker yourself?

...Were you there on 9/11? I'll understand if you don't want to answer.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to Quinn-G [2012-09-11 20:12:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh I definitely meant it as a "general you", not you specifically! I took no offense to your comment.

And yes, I am indeed a New Yorker, and have been my entire life. I was actually in high school at the time, and we were on the third floor (our area of New York City didn't have many tall buildings) and could see everything right out the window. We actually also had a TV station in my school, so they patched in to the live broadcast from the news as it all happened. It was surreal, and I'll never forget it. Luckily we were far away enough that we really didn't have much to worry about, but it was just absolutely horrifying.

Certainly didn't feel like anyone was lucky that day, but we were certainly thankful once the attacks stopped. It was just one report after the others, you know? We didn't know what was next. Scary stuff.
