this is all kinds of badass. makes me wish that SOME people (cough cough microsoft cough) would get off their lasy asses and give us a skyrim controller as kickass as the one you've been so gracious as to showcase for us. hopefully though, they'll do that with the xbox one's release, when they release elder scrolls VI, which is an inevitability. (they've already got pull to do fallout 4, so they're has to be an elder scrolls VI coming soon.

Thanks a bunch!
Yeah I've never understood why they don't do more
awesome controllers, especially an elder scrolls one!
Can't wait for it, no RPG is as emersive and huge as an
elder scrolls game, unless I just haven't been looking
hard enough
thanks again for checking out my work

welcome mate. it is quite the mystery, microsoft did release controllers for gears of war, and halo, but to my knowledge, those are the only one's i've seen artwork wise. it's a shame, but there's always elder scrolls VI, when it comes out. i just hope it's able to run on the xbox one smoothly this time, because the shit skyrim pulls with my 360 is stupid. lag up the ass, and it freezes if i'm playing for too long. i do have a fan for it, but apparently, that doesn't stop the thing from locking up. sigh, why do you hate me microsoft? what have i done to you to deserve this?

I know what you mean, the amount of times I've had to
wrap my xbox in a towel to fight off the dreaded hell
beast Red-ring-o'-death. Microsoft hates us all mate, you
are not alone!
I'm hoping Xbox One ups its game, but I've gotta say, they
didn't really speak about games at all with the release, I
think it's not even a console, I think it's a toaster, or
a kettle

well, i haven't had a problem with that yet, since my xbox came equipped with a fan. and given i live in the UK, it's only mildly humid in the summer, before it rains like hell. so even if i tried to overheat it, it wouldn't be possible, it would cool down too quick with the rainfall. but i get what you mean, i had to buy a new xbox because my old one got the RROD. good to know, at least i'm not the odd man out on this one.
i do as well, hopefully when fallout 4 comes out, the xbox one will be able to take the pixel count, because it was damn godly when it debuted at E3. hopefully, elder scrolls will be the same. i don't want a bloody console that can't handle lag or freeze ups for shit.

What materials did you use, exactly, and what steps did you use them in? Did you draw with pencil or something on it first? Because the PS3 controllers already have a slippery surface.

Thanks for checking out my work!
The slippery surface is a pain, the most important part
is prepping the pad correctly. First you sand it down to
a rougher surface, this will hold the base coat better.
Once the pad is painted, you then lacquer it loads to make
it shiny and slippery again! Without this prep, the paint job
will fade and rub away over time
I'll be posting a proper tutorial for the whole process soon
so feel free to watch me if you like
Thanks again mate

I tried to open my controller up to paint it, then the last screw got stripped and the whole thing is busted now I just wanted to paint it!!!! Can I paint it without taking it apart?

I wouldn't advise painting it without taking it apart, you
can ruin the buttons and the insides that way...
Xbox or playstation controller?
You can buy new screws to replace the stripped ones, try to use
the right sized screwdriver to avoid it happening again. Xbox pads
are awkward because they need a "Torx" screwdriver, but they only cost
about a quid and you can grab them on Ebay!
Sorry to hear about your controller mate, let me know if you get it fixed,
there's videos on youtube to show you how to put pads back together

Very, very nice. Wish I thought of a design like this when I made my dad his Xbox controller. Is this spray painted?

Thank you! The 'snowy' background is painted, the emblem and helmet are acrylic paint, with lacquer over the top thanks for checking it out!

Sure, I'm not great at tutorials but the most important thing is to sand the pad lightly and give it a base coat before applying the acrylic paint. Otherwise it'll crack and rub off after extended use. Also, when your happy with the design, give it a few coats of lacquer to keep it un-chippable! Thanks for checking it out mate

Joel-Wade In reply to Jalohauki [2012-12-31 10:47:26 +0000 UTC]
I tend to use acrylics, then a gloss coat and loads of lacquer coats to keep it strong, dropped one down the stairs once - not a scratch
Thanks mate glad you like it
