Happy to share my last painting of 2021! Hope you like it.

This is a painting of a soothsayer from the desert tribes of Midian, around 700 BC.

Once they were rulers of the Levant and Arabia, now they are a shadow of their former selves, bordering the coast of the Red sea. While their age of supremacy if all but over, their knowledge and might goes back to the days before the flood.

Soothsayer

From the entire Levant, pilgrims walk bare-feat on coal-hot sands to the edge of the jagged rocks bordering the red sea. Hidden within these mountains a great tent looms over the visitor, where an ageless woman awaits in a deceitful welcome. With surprising agility the collects the extinct herbs and minerals from the intricate jars and pots, whereafter they are cunsumed by the flames on the brazier. The soothsayer chants, he eyes of the idols are lit, and the sun-disk glows. In the roaring fire, the pilgrim sees his future manifest, crumble or change, all to the whims of the soothsayer.
