Beautiful. Simply amazing! Btw, what software did you use?

Holy Moly Mackeroly! You did this with Apophysis??? Damn, you're good. Could you give me some tips for making great and original fractals?

hmmm... actually I did this with the Apophysis 3D hack. Check out *Zueuk 's journals for info.

You have the new "3D hack" version that was released today?

JoelFaber In reply to onlyalive8 [2007-10-04 05:59:43 +0000 UTC]
I started with something like this: [link] and added more transforms and 3D variations.
I see from your gallery that you've been making "grand julian" styled flames. This fractal [link] by *Zueuk can provide some inspiration into 3d Grand Julians. Make sure that you use the new 3D julian variations. I hope you figure it out! Have fun Jessica.

i dont think i will ever understand it. I tried using some of my saved parameters and changing all the transforms to lets say if it is linear 1, I changed it to linear3D 1 and cleared the regular. Yet nothing is different. but thank you for trying to help me. I will just have to wait for someone to write a tutorial for airheads such as myself.

You have to change the central blur to a 3d blur transform and the julian transforms to julia3ds. Then move the camera around and see what you've got!

Astounding. The depth...well, it's amazing that this is a fractal. Great work!

Do I recognise the base fractal? It looks a lot like your Apollonian Gasket flame, viewed at an angle, with the added spherical reflections brought out into 3D . . .

Yes, it uses something similar to the first Apollonian style parameters I posted. I did this before I figured out the real Apollonian gasket parameters

If you're still on the apo tester's forum you can download *Zueuk 's 3D hack.

So how does one find the apo tester's forum? I'd love to help beta test Apop versions.

I was invited to join the forum after I started messing around with the source code on my own. Other prominent/long standing members of the Apophysis community have been invited to join too. Technically you are already beta testing: Apophysis 2.06c is a beta release

After some digging, I figured that out. How many variations will/does the 3-D version handle? What are the rendering times like compared to 2-D?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
JoelFaber In reply to djeaton3162 [2007-09-22 22:50:37 +0000 UTC]
Some of the 2d variations have been removed to make room for some new 3d variations. I'm not sure how many there are/will be. Rendering times depend on the variations being used. Some are faster than some of the slower 2d variations, some are slower.
