It's exciting to see this wonderful pioneering 3-D work being done in Apo.

Amazing!
It even has a Terragen type of terrain look to it.
I can't wait for the release of the 3d version/plug-in
What I see:
What the crater would look like after an asteroid hits.

BARBEQUE!!!!!!!
Okay, either that or a bunch of asteroids hitting stuff.
Awesome work Joel, I'm lovin' this one.

Beautiful fractal!
I've got it featured in my journal!

It is similar to the apollonian gasket. I found this form on my recent search for the apollonian gasket.

That's really cool! Great look of heat and stone and the 3D is wonderful.

These 3D fractals are out out of this world! I just want to reach into the picture and pick up a shiny pebble. Awesome job with these!

Undone
( The Guess Who )
She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
It was too late
She's come undone
She found a mountain that was far too high
And when she found out she couldn't fly
It was too late
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone
She wanted truth but all she got was lies
Came the time to realize
And it was too late
She's come undone
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
Mama, it was too late
It's too late
She's gone too far
She's lost the sun
She's come undone...

I can't tell if it looks more like newborn planets or a macro of fresh hot volcanic rocks. Awesome

Because I am a bit askew in the way I view things from everyone else I think.. this one actually immediately made me thing of what half cooled Lava Rock might look like under heavy magnification.. little bubbles of vapors and little flames still trying to make their way out and so forth.. I think its fabulous...

No, a few other people said it looks like lava rock too or macro photography too
Thanks

You mean, I am normal??
WOOT!
You are very welcome Joel, you do a good fractal, even though I know nothing about them..

Caption competition: "Io's radioactive golf range was proving to be one of the moon's most popular attractions, especially among sports extremists"
Seriously good stuff! The natural distance blur really adds to the sense of perspective. I suppose the odd cases of transparency are just one of the features of flames that can't be totally eliminated...

Yeah, there is no z-buffer to eliminate the parts of the fractal behind other elements. It is one of the many challenges in getting 3d fractals to look decent.

I'm guessing that it's something about deciding which elements are to be designated as 'being in front'? Otherwise it sounds eminently possible...

JoelFaber In reply to IDeviant [2007-09-15 05:37:46 +0000 UTC]
It is a difficult problem getting the "being in front" part done well. The fractal is composed of a bunch of dots. Lots of dots together make up everything you see. Few dots together appear transparent (or even invisible if there are very few). Deciding which dots to throw away is not easy!

Terrific, Joel! It's technically amazing, if not aesthetically pleasing (as I'm seeing a dust mote or pollen molecule). Keep up the good work!

This looks like the surface of a strange and new planet bubbling away. I wonder what life forms will eventually appear?
Wonderful work.

A very nice flame ! An overall real feeling, yet the close look bring a lot of unreality, perfect fractal.
(I wish I could put my hand on this version even more )

I will point out in relation to my first post is that I'm a sucker for bold colors, and therefore may be a touch biased. Said gradient is probably why the image has that electron-microscope-view feeling to it, so maybe I shouldn't knock it that much. Sorry.

I found it difficult to colour this particular fractal. I would have liked some more variation in the colour of the spheres but i couldn't get it to work well, so I went with fire and stone colours.

DeepChrome In reply to JoelFaber [2007-09-01 02:04:49 +0000 UTC]
That's a good reason why. And yeah I'd find that a tricky one to color too. Guess we can't win 'em all, huh?

WHOAH.
All I can say is my jaw literally hung out when I saw the fullview. The detailing here is fantastic, especially on the spheres, and how the fractal repeats in 3D. This has a real "seen through an electron microscope" vibe going on here, and just...wow.
My one nitpick is the gradient isn't terribly stunning except where those flashes of gold/yellow light are concerned.
