Agh, that's painful to read, isn't it?

As a fanon fan I don't know a lot of DxC shippers, so I'm not really sure what the general reaction to TDA was. Those I do know seem to have been as annoyed by it as anyone, if for different reasons, and if they continue to ship this couple do it while ignoring these incidents or pretending they didn't happen. That's totally cool.

But I'm sure somewhere, there are DxC fans that just don't care or even enjoyed the way Courtney treated Duncan. Which is messed up. No network would air a man doing that sort of stuff to a woman---and it shouldn't, because it would send an absolutely horrible message. But TDA and many other shows depict women/girls beating on men/boys all the time, as though this were any better. It's not.

Domestic violence is domestic violence. If Duncan can't smack Courtney with a guitar to the crotch, she shouldn't be able to do it to him.

Thank you.

(Oh, and obviously, images do not belong to me, nor does the concept of the Demotivational poster, etc. And this is my first one, by the way, please feel free to critique or offer advice. )

Dude Duncan is the guy who's been hit in the crotch the most

No, Harold's been hit the most!

With Courtney around, that's not surprising.

i wouldn't mind the duncan/courtney fanfics if they weren't so friggin' fluffly.
now, if someone actually wrote ABOUT the abuse, and didn't try to justify it or pretend it never happened...
i would LOVE to see that.

...okay, i'm not saying that people can't pretend it didn't happen. as long as tda doesn't exist in a particular fic's universe, i'm totally cool with people ignoring it. but even in season one, it was there. just...not as bad.
blah. i lost my point. ._.;

tl;dr abuse shouldn't be played for laughs, but in a darker, more serious universe it would actually be somewhat interesting to see how much it mentally screws up the guy being abused.

That's a good point. I understand the desire to ignore it, though---I watch TDWT with that basic philosophy in mind, which helps me avoid hating her.

Gosh, that kid needs help. It's night right to treat a man or a woman in this manner and I'm glad the guy left her. No one deserves that kind of bs. I personally support DxC, but I don't like how Courtney treats Duncan. The only reason why I want him to be with Gwen is because she will treat him better. I'm sure Court loves Duncan in some way, but I feel like if he had gotten in trouble with the law and went to her, that she'd turn him in. She probably wouldn't want to ruin her 'reputation'. I think if Courtney got with an abusive man (my character, for example), she'd appreciate Duncan way way more. Duncan would never lay a hand on her and Courtney should do the same for him.

JoeMerl In reply to Darkness-Flame8 [2010-07-08 02:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I think they're trying to downplay her TDA-nastiness this season, though---though of course she only had one episode with Duncan so far, so that aspect at least is hard to judge.

Idk, she seems just as mean still P: I mean, she's still bossy and thinks she's better than everyone else. But idk, maybe she'll have a change of heart P: Looks like Duncan may get with Gwen, though.

I sort of doubt that; I sort of like D/G a bit better (though I'm not huge on either, really), but I think the writers are going to be committed to Duncan/Courtney. But yeah, she might get a bit nastier if Duncan rejoins the game and the love triangle arc gets picked up again.

Darkness-Flame8 In reply to JoeMerl [2010-07-09 00:49:21 +0000 UTC]

maybe. i mean a lot of people like DxC but i know a lot of people also like him with Gwen. But I know Duncan will come back cause of the previews. But court needs to learn how to be nicer and it's annoying how she, Gwen and Heather are fighting.

I CANNOT stand DxC. It just doesn't make any sense. Actually, one DxC shipper tried to justify the abuse.

JoeMerl In reply to IAmRainstormTheGinge [2010-06-20 23:57:37 +0000 UTC]

I agree; even putting aside the whole abuse issue, the show seems to me to have taken the couple in the wrong direction. If the dynamic was about Duncan making Courtney loosen up, and/or Courtney making Duncan act nicer, I think it could be an interesting couple; but instead Courtney stays stuck-up (and gets worse), Duncan stays a delinquent, and the two fight like animals over control of the relationship. They could never work out in real life like that.

Thanks for the !

This sort of humor kinda reminds me of another show. What was it's name again?

Oh yeah, iCarly.

I haven't seen so much of iCarly (I honestly dislike most reality shows) but, I've noticed that one of the characters, named Sam, constantly hurts (either physically or emotionally) another character named Freddy.

I don't find it funny, at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeMerl In reply to Ocean-Lights [2010-06-06 22:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I watch that show occasionally, and some fans don't like Sam for that reason. The creator made a show before that, Drake and Josh, that was even worse, though---the title characters' little sister basically tortured them with pranks every episode, and then managed to get them blamed for it. She was not a popular character with the fans, apparently.

Ocean-Lights In reply to JoeMerl [2010-06-06 22:30:34 +0000 UTC]

I adored Drake and Josh. I found the show somewhat ironic and funny however, I must agree with you on the Megan part. She was my least favorite character because she played mean pranks on them.

The only reality show that I ever seen that doesn't include so much of that violence is Ned's declassified: School survival guide or something like that. XD

Yes, Gaz has quite the little hatedom for that reason. At least the show ended before she could become even more derailed, I'd hate to see how insane they would have made her if they had more episodes to work with.

I would have ran out of my house screaming, crying, and screaming WHYYYYYYYYY at the empty sky, and im American.

Fun fact: When the last episodes were airing, and the producers heard Invader Zim was going to be canceled, they started making ways to kill Zim off, a few episodes were actually INTENDED to kill him. The people at Nick said no killing, so the original ending is still floating around somewhere.

Dude, it's a cartoon. Things like that are just put in for humor, and nothing more. Us DxC fans understand that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeMerl In reply to ShonenJump4eva [2010-05-07 02:11:18 +0000 UTC]

True, but I've noticed that shows tend to have things like this a lot (though not usually as extreme as here). And like I said, if it were Duncan punching Courtney in multiple episodes, a lot fewer people would find it "humorous."

I was a HUGE DuncanxCourtney fan. Then came TDA, Courtney acted like a bitch and forgot everything she learned in TDI, and Duncan, was Duncan.

Though when Duncan and Courtney kissed each time I was happy. I pretty much don't like Courtney with anybody but Duncan or Duncan without anybody but Courtney.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeMerl In reply to MasterHearts [2010-04-19 23:49:50 +0000 UTC]

I'm not a big DxC fan myself, but I'm glad those who like the pairing at least realize how messed up TDA made it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterHearts In reply to JoeMerl [2010-04-19 23:56:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Ever since Courtney got eliminated, I didn't like her. She was actually pretty nice at the start! Example, when Izzy hit her head at the beginning, she was the only one who tried to help her, even though Izzy acted insane after that. If it wasn't for her, the Killer Bass would've never won any challenge. I'm still mad at Harold for being the cause of Courtney's elimination.

Courtney forgot EVERYTHING she learned in TDI when she was in TDA. She was also extremely violent in TDA, I agree with you.

The point is TDI Courtney is AWESOME!
TDA Courtney sucks.
Hopefully Total Drama World Tour is better that Season 2. And Courtney will be nicer.

JoeMerl In reply to StaRob4ever [2010-04-03 04:29:05 +0000 UTC]

How does it take guts? I mean, really. There's never any question that he's going to hit her back---as if the networks would even allow that. She's hitting him precisely because she knows he's not going to do anything to get back at her, because when it comes to Courtney Duncan is nothing but a pathetic little bitch. It's not gutsy; it's downright cowardly.
