The new Japanese foreign minister Shigemitsu limps on-board to sign the surrender document.
The Allied Commander, General MacArthur:
MacARTHUR (film): "I now invite the representatives of the Emperor of Japan, and the Japanese Government, and the Japanese Imperial Headquarters, to sign the instrument of surrender at the places indicated."
The foreign minister's aide, [Toshikazu] Kase, watched the ceremony:
TOSHIKAZU KASE [recording from way before 1973-74?]: I saw many thousands of sailors everywhere on this huge vessel and just in front of us the delegates of the victorious powers in military uniforms glittering with gold. And looking at them, I wondered how Japan ever thought she could defeat all those nations.

Love this image on the bottom panel. My Dad was one of the divers who dove and mapped out the USS Arizona so that the memorial could be built and my brother re-enlisted on it.

i am happy i didnt sound too rude lol
im a 'army brat' so that combined with Irish background makes me
a bit like i sometimes speak to direct for some people so i am glad that was not the case!
If you need a sugestion for a ww2 comic try the Dambusters operation of May 16 - 17 1943 or when the Tirpitz was sunk in 1944...im just a sucker for Avro Lancaster art lol plus i think the story of both are pretty cool and have everyone from Canada to Aussie to NZ to America mentioned in it.

As to seeking your comics out - TRUST ME when i say it was a bugger getting them ordered down under if its not siperhero its usually not ordered blind. which SUCKS - its like the other stuff dont exsist which is real crappy!
Its pretty unlikely i will get down your way but if you ever get to Aussie give me notice so i can shout you a beer in thanks!

Hey Stephen, I didn't take your comments as "rude" at all (^_^).
This Pearl Harbor book is woefully short and lacking the depth a real telling requires. It's basically a primer for kids to tell them about the major events.
Even so, I've added a lot more text and panels to the script I was given (which might get cut), because I became so immersed in research I couldn't resist.
There are so many amazing stories from the Pacific War, you could never have enough pages.
This Pearl Harbor book was a very emotional experience for me, despite the tight schedule and my frustration at compromising details.
It always amazes me learning about the individual lives, decisions, and sacrifices the men of that war had to endure. It's terrible and romantic at the same time.
Even when I was 7 or 8, visiting the Arizona, I felt an emotional "thrill" looking down into the shallow waters. I can't imagine diving on her, knowing many of her crew rests inside forever.

it would have been better if the Brit/ANZAC/Dutch and whoever else i cant think of there as they were at the signing taking their turn at the book until
Doug McCarthur uttered the final words of the cenermony -
"THESE PROCEDINGS ARE NOW CLOSED"
or as Arthur Harris said in ww2
'.....they shall now reap the whirlwind..'

While my Dad was with SASR (Aust) he did a detach with USN SEALS and said they did a dive along the hull of the USS Arizona's remains and he said he never felt so many goose bumps on his skin then
(until he dived the remains of the HMAS Perth and USS Houston in the Sunda Straights - we lost 2 members of the family on Perth) that dive and he can only compare it with a feeling of being looked at from a distance and of being watched. very spooky he said.

This is a really well done picture. It's an amazing looking memorial and you really captured it.
I really like the texture in the water. Where the boat is fuzzy with the exception of that bit above water. Really sells the depth.
I heard on the news that this year several survivors actually got to meet some of the Japanese pilots.
I also never knew that some survivors wanted their ashes to placed with their fallen comrades.
