Description
EDIT: I cleaned up the white line mess (peace Migz) around her and tried to add a little reflection over to the right (Peace Eyesone). Let me know what y'all think.I pretty much finished her, so I wanted to find a way to incorporate her into an environment where she (the sketch) was conceived... On the subway.

Considering that I ride the NYC subways everyday of my life, this is great and probably my favorite piece.

Your art style and coloring are awesome. I can't think of a more specific thing to say, because the whole thing is just GOOD.

Hey nice illustration! like the style and concept, but my only crit ( and its a small crit) would be the lighting of the girl it could be matched to inside of the train.

This is ill, and it doesn't even have blood and blunt objects in it.
And I don't know if the asian cat is physic and can see into the future that there is going to be a "punked out urban grunged chica" standing there, but he's lookin straight at her ass.

It looks awesome- I've always loved this vector anyway (boobs!). But her reflection doesn't work for me- it looks unnatural and I don't think it would be there normally.
Or am I just a loon?

No, you aint a loon. I've been tussling with this piece. It's really hard to get everything to look right with this mix. I think I might try a few more things and be done with it by George!

I think that you would want her to stand out more being that she's sort of a metaphor to the environment that surrounds her and though she is illustrated she has a realistic trait to her in the vector colouring and lighting, nah mean yah dig? Don't re work it, just play with the rater background and reflections.

sooo many times ive thought about doing something like this but always got stuck at the hardest stage: the fucking logistics! you gotta think of the lighting, reflections the scale..gah its too much for me.
well done on this, its not easy to match up 2d and 3d.
maybe you could alter the saturation abit tho, to get it to fit in better with the nasty floursecent lights. the colours are a bit too strong compared to everyone else
unless this is what you were going with, in which case its cool.

I'm not exactly sure. I know what you're talking about, but I'm torn with wanting her to stand out or wanting her to blend better. I'll mess around with it some more, I just don't want to lose some of those colors, you know?

the reflection is a genious touch
great job on the colouring too

Thanks... You might be right. I gave her the name Grace because it's a strong but beautiful name. She's extremely cynnical, which usually denotes a little lack of confidence. Who knows.

what'd you sketch with a graphite than do a scan? keeping the original sketch lines looks dope.
I've been sketching in my book in pencil then inking cleaning up with an eraser scanning into illustrator or phop to color but seems as if when I keep the inked look and color in phop it looks dirty and mottled but in illustrator its crispo wallah! ha ha. But if you avoid inking pre-scan / it comes out smooth in pshop. Man I can't think I need a sabaticle!!!

Joey-Zero In reply to eyesone [2004-09-02 13:21:13 +0000 UTC]
Yea, it's just straight pencil work, I'm too lazy to break out the pens. But I have to clean it up a bit in PS, because the scanner picks up stray lines and all that crap, and I up the contrast and tweek the levels till I like the way it looks. I might try a few more like this, with the photo background.

did you use this photo with her in it as a reference or did you add her to the image,
cause in the original work in progress it looks as if she is holding onto the handle bar that you would find in a subway. Just curious about the technique.

Joey-Zero In reply to eyesone [2004-09-02 03:57:45 +0000 UTC]
I drew her just outta the blue one day on the way home from work. I had the photo laying around from a shitload of random digital pics I've taken on the subway. There was no one in the photo where's she's standing. I knew I wanted to put her on a photo of the train, so I went through all the pics I had of that, and she seemed to fit in this one the best.
She's completely from my mind. Then I colored her in Illustrator.
