Description
I guess you could call this a sort of editorial piece. I found the reference for this while looking up images of Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East. As we all know, many things have happened in that area that have re-defined these times. Be it natural, or man-imposed. Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes; takeovers, wars, poverty. And with all that, there's still shreds of hope and purity scattered about. When I saw this image, I just felt that she was a perfect embodiment of it. She doesn't appear to be overly joyful, but she just has this hopeful look about her.Anyway, on to the technical side. She was done all in Illustrator, flat shapes, and brought into Photoshop and worked into the background. The usual recipe for me these days.

absolutely fantabulous!! I love the way that the eyes actually do seem hopeful, and inspire hope in those who see them.. It's long road to freedom. But this piece shows there's always light.. You art goes beyond "nice" or "beautiful".. It's transcends the viewer into a world of emotion, and *that* is the key of a true artist

I always have to put your comments aside for a bit before I can answer them because you say so many cool things. I appreciate it! And I'm glad it's more to look at than just another piece.

Wow... pretty well done. Lovely eyes and mouth shades.
There could be more lighting and shadow effects layers in the hair though.

God man, I don't think anyone can compete with you. I hereby dub you one of my favourite portrait artists around. Alive with personality, packed with flawless detail work, and hours spent in dedication and meticulous work. You're an artist, there's no denying that.

First I gotta tell you I love this piece. Great job.
I would have liked to see more contrast in her hair. Maybe a darker color and lighter color as you did her lips and skin. As it looks now there is just a brown patch in the middle of the picture.
BUT IT IS AWESOME! I still love it.

I know exactly what you're saying. If you look at some of my other pieces, I usually do add more detail to the hair. I was experimenting a bit with leaving it a solid color and allowing texture to define it more, and I agree, it looks a little funked out. I was actually planning to go back in and add some more layers to the hair.
Thanks for the comment... I have to check more of your stuff out, it's freaking awe-inspiring. Don't be surprised if you see a couple of favs from me.

I saw this on your desktop image you submitted not too long ago, I've been waiting for you to finish it. The eyes are lips are the best part of this, they're so defined. Beautiful work bro.

I can imagine. You nailed the intensity. That was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the piece. They draw you into it, it's almost a hypnotic quality.

that works. good jobas usual
i think the background need to be not so photographic. it has original colors but the contrast of textures is not the best .. u know

I am probably going to re-work this piece a little, like the hair for instance, so I might try a few different things with her background.

I agree with the earlier statment: the eyes are fantastic, man! In a way, they are the most engaging portion of the piece just because of the color choices you made. They are just short of being hypnotic.
For me, I keep thinking the part that I like the best is the way you've handled the background. Having the light beam come out of the clouds is a good enough choice for background, but the subtle blend of the building (or structure) into the clouds is smart, but the ease of the blend itself is perfect.
Perfect! Again! you bastard!

Joey-Zero In reply to Venasque [2005-04-15 20:10:20 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I tried to convey the concept in the background, like the grunginess of the lower background fades toward a more inviting one.
I can't think or type today.

no, I got what you meant, even before typed it out (I think).
But hell, who needs to think or type when you can vector this shit outta the world?!
