Sooooo...do these ships still hold weight even ever after the characters have already married and have had children?

I also would like to know why you would post a comment like this that questions the canonicity of the pairing rather than having an open mind and exploring other possibilities. Also no mention of the amazing job the artist did on the drawing? Like check out that background! Amazing right?

Tvalger In reply to D4ncingD4wn [2015-06-30 04:06:06 +0000 UTC]

The bits I can see of the background is indeed quite beautiful. It reminds me of my home in the Evergreens.

And I don't think it's being close minded to question fan-shippings or fanfictions. I should mention that I haven't completely finished the manga series. (missed a couple volumes here and there)

But from what I've seen and what my fellow critics said; the ending couples are serviceable, and I myself can actually see most of them as legitimate. I would only say the only downside of them is the time jump. I would have loved to see Hinata and Naruto hit it off and see all of the other characters' relationships blossom and grow.

That's why time jumps aren't done very well in most stories nowadays.

I love this ship and have since day one, and just because the author forces a pairing on me with no proper romantic foundation that does not mean I won't interpret the characters the way that I personally see them. These two have a special place in my heart, and the fact that despite everything these two went through they are still best friends is enough to make me very happy. A ship doesn't have to be canon for it to still have weight right? I still love these two idiots with all my heart. I love Naruhina and I love their children even more, but I can still enjoy Narusasu because their relationship means something to me.

I never really got into the show anyway. It's not really a good anime. Not that the characters aren't good or the story isn't interesting; but the animation itself is bad.

Besides that, I just never really get fan shipping. I know that canon may not always be satisfying, but then again the writers of animes aren't always the best at what they do.

The animation gets better later on, personally I always loved it, the story was always compelling enough for me.
Fan shipping is less about dissatisfaction and more about... just liking the potential chemistry.

Tvalger In reply to JoeyHazelLM [2015-06-30 04:11:53 +0000 UTC]

I can respect that. I never saw the chemistry myself; but I can respect if you do.

And to explain what I meant by the animation, like most shonen and weekly feature anime, the majority of it Is slowed down and cut off movements with still frames.
Like I said, it's not the characters or the story; it's just the presentation.

Emotionally yes
The heart doesn't necessarily stop loving after something is over right?
Besides, for a series that had a prologue showing everyone as happily hetero and married with kids.... those final scenes between naruto and sasuke were hella gay.
(Also my friend and I like to pretend that naruhina and sasusaku as actually in a polyamorous relationship so really, canon stuff is more of a... suggestion for shippers I suppose)

I'll never understand shipping. I know that everyone has their own preferences but why put so much energy into it? Don't take it the wrong way, I'm not hating on it; but why do so many fans make gay shipping like this? I've seen a lot of characters who come across more like brothers in arms turned into fanfictions that barely resemble the characters from the show.
And before anyone uses the "don't like, don't look" line, I'm only questioning the reasons as to why this stuff happens.
(As you can tell I'm mostly a canon man)

JoeyHazelLM In reply to Tvalger [2015-06-30 03:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Nothing wrong with that Shipping is just the basic thing of "they look like they'd be a good couple" and running with. (Shipping applies to canon ships too of course, it really just means enjoying and supporting a relationship)
As for putting so much energy into it? It's a matter of passion I suppose. Like, why do people put so much energy into writing stories anyway right? Cuz something fascinates them, or strikes a cord and they gotta get it out right? It the same idea I think, just directed at loving the chemistry of some characters. Also I imagine many shippers are romantics who want to see love come true and all so.. you know, romance fuels them.
As for the gay shipping thing? There's lots of factors, one of the main ones is that lots of slash shippers are non-straight themselves and they may want to see themselves represented more. Like, you know how people can connect with and see themselves in characters? It's kinda like that, so then they can see themselves AS the characters and see how said characters could possibly feel towards other characters. (For myself personally I connect a fair bit with BBC's Sherlock and thus can see how Watson would make a good romantic partner for him... aka I want to find a Watson to my Holmes.) In some cases the slash shipping comes from teens who enjoy the taboo and dangerous romance of two same-sex characters together I imagine.
About the bending canon thing? It's more like... when you go in the mindset of "what if they weren't straight" suddenly a lot of their actions can be read as romantic. A theory on why females are more common slash shippers is that women are more often tuned into romantic cues and thus can easily interpret possible romantic feelings. Now of course I do things with my friends that could be romantic in another context but I know the difference regarding our feelings... but fictional characters are... fictional and so are a lot more easier to bend around. And honestly... when creators keep on heaping one tons and TONS of such easily readable subtext... it's very hard to NOT see a relationship as platonic.
Regarding out of character fanfics... that's more of a generic stereotype of fanfiction. There are many fics with in-character writing that shows that it's really more about interpretation. Kinda like people decoding and intpreting ancient texts or stories... "what did they really mean?" and then scholars arguing over the true intents... it's basically the same thing with fandoms.
Me, I'm more of a go-with-the-flow kind if gal and love seeing different interpretations and ideas of canon, I love "what-ifs" and exploring the heck out of them
Hope I didnt ramble to much ^^

Such an elegant reply. I do believe I learned a bit of something. I can definitely respect such passions.
I do apologize if I did come across as insensitive; I'm more in the mindset of originality, like I love seeing OCs and such. So fanfictions are (well, were) more or less a mystery to me.

Thanks! And thanks for listening!
And understandable I was very confused by the idea of fanfictions myself when I first found them, (and they werent the best ones either)
I personally love OCs and other original creations too, I hope my own can gain a crazy fandom following one day
Fandoms really are a whole other culture, and can seem really bizarre from and outside perspective.. I just hope to gain these crazy fangirls a bit more respect

I would be honored in learning more from you and lending my knowledge as a world builder (if that can be applied 😅).

You definitely don't come across as the yaoi/yuri fanatic that's been stereotypical of 'Fangirls'. You show logic and support for your ship here, and that in itself is shows an impressive artistic intellect.
I'm sure that many will follow your example.

Thank you! I'd love to exchange thoughts and critique and world building (it's one of my weaker points actually, I'm best at character developing)

It really is a stereotype, and with all stereotypes, they're only true of the loudest, not the majority right?

Aye. It's truly sad how no matter how we try and quash it, unfair judgements always surface in people's hearts.

That's totally fair! I too enjoy the uniqueness of original characters cause it shows the pure creativity of the author Thanks for listening to us (well, mostly Joey but I still appreciate you taking the time to read her reply anyhow)!

Not really to bring religion into this, but growing up in my Church has taught me to be quite open minded; judge not, but don't be afraid to ask the hard questions.

I would be honored in learning more from the both of you.

A lot of what you said here is very true Joey, fanfiction's main idea is "this is what the story would look like if I were writing it." That's why sometimes the characters seem different to how they are in canon. If a reader just wanted a carbon copy of the character in the actual show/anime then they would just rewatch the show right? The whole point of fanfiction is to look at things from a different point of view and to incorporate diverse qualities in a character that the original author might have been unable to convey themselves.
