...and so they started to worship their bright new God, he was brighter than before and his overwhelming power literally filled the sky......it lasted for about 4 minutes and then they were wiped out of the existence... ...along with another 3-4 systems that had been close and unfortunate enough to get caught in the blast...

Wow... I wonder if you actually took a photograph instead of painting XD Just kiddin'.
You really did this very nicely. I especially love the nebulae.

Is it just me, or are there two supernovae right near each other? one looks like it happened way earlier and seems to be pushing the nebula dust away, then there's the new one you must be referring too...a supenrova in a nebula is a cool thought, a place of birthing lasted long enough to have some of the stars dying within it still
Very realistic too

I was inspired by the fact that Pillars of Creation were destroyed by such a thing.
"In early 2007, scientists using the Spitzer discovered evidence that potentially indicates the Pillars were destroyed by a nearby supernova explosion about 6,000 years ago, but the light showing the new shape of the nebula will not reach Earth for another millennium" - wiki
There are actually 3 supernovae (a small chain reaction) - that big (the oldest) one, then the smaller one and then that brightest lense at the edge of the small one (just happened) - that's the one I'm reffering to.
Thanks!

Oh wow, I never heard of that! it's creepy and a little sad to think that most of the cool stuff we see in space probably isn't there anymore due to the delay of light over huge distances, in that case - we at least have another thousand years or so to enjoy it...but I wonder if the destruction of it when it does come visible to us will be sudden enough to video it on camera, even if it has to be sped up from a few weeks or months worth of filming, or if it will be one of those painfully slow changes that would take many years to notice

It probably depends on the scale - now I'm not sure about the size of Pillars, but if they're a few light years across, it'll take also a few years for us to observe the whole process.

HOLY COW! this is awesome! Your work is incredible. I've always had a weakness for those really cool hubble telescope images. Your stuff is like a new boatload of images straight from space! Do you create your art digitally?

This is what it looks like when I meditate... just without the supernovas obliterating everything. Life runs in cycles, though. It is expected... just not inside me.
Thank You for this, Joe! Your work is incredible! Is this an actual photograph?

Ummm... I don't think it takes four minutes for a supernova blast to reach the nearest 3-4 systems.... Even if it travels at the speed of light (3.00x10^8 m/s^2) the distance between systems is generally a few lightyears (a measure of distance NOT time... that's for you Star Wars...)... And that's... Pretty dang far... Even so... This is soo going into my 'backgrounds' folder....
