Your planets always look the same. They're always rocky planets filled with canyons and no visible bodies of water. It'd be really nice to see something not so generic from you.

JoeyJazz In reply to RadulfGreyhammer [2010-09-07 11:00:02 +0000 UTC]

I don't know If you noticed, but half of that planet is covered by magma.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadulfGreyhammer In reply to JoeyJazz [2010-09-07 23:14:48 +0000 UTC]

It's first impression on me was that it was some redish rocks and canyons, like something seen on Mars; save for the rocks and canyons. It didn't appear to be magma to me. Maybe it's too bright? I don't have a concept of what magma would look like from space. :/.

But you've excessively beyond mastered nebulae and their components. Your planets, however beautiful they are, always seem to be 'basic' rock ones. It'd be nice to see something more complex

JoeyJazz In reply to RadulfGreyhammer [2010-09-08 06:38:41 +0000 UTC]

Water planets are not complex when you're mentioning that. But yeah, I need to refresh my texture pack for the next year, so don't worry.

irkendragon In reply to RadulfGreyhammer [2010-09-07 03:57:37 +0000 UTC]

A water-on-the-surface earth-like planet is very rare. We know more about the various images of rocky planets than we do our single example of a water-bearing planet. So naturally it's easier to paint these types of planets rather than paint a verdant world and risk it looking too much like earth. But yes, there's not enough concept art of thriving worlds. Too many barren ones.

JoeyJazz In reply to irkendragon [2010-09-07 13:28:57 +0000 UTC]

They actually don't even look good. They allways tend to look more painted then realistic. I must admit I don't make them for the sole reason they don't provide enough space to play with variations on the carbonic surface. If someone commissioned me to make one I'll gladly do it, otherwise I have no reason making it - I'd rather paint a gas giant, which is much difficult but more interesting anyway.
