I've been in a nostalgic mood lately, plus the recent news that there's a Barney reboot in the works for 2017 probably got me in the mood to draw my own version of the purple dino. This is mostly based on the original Backyard Gang version of the character, which looked a bit more dinosaur-like (The original design also had much darker colors which I lightened up to look like an in-between version of the original and latter versions of the character).A few years back I actually thought up my own ideas for a reboot of Barney, even wrote a comic story of it. It's actually already been penciled and fully scripted, I just need to ink and color it, maybe I'll get to finishing that someday. Till then this drawing will do for now.

This is a Very Good Redesign of Barney the Dinosaur, not only it really fits that Barney is a Animated Cartoon rather than a guy in a big very creepy costume but also it give the character a lot better personality and make him a lot more friendly.
Although the design looks very simple to be made but it still looks good nonetheless.
You know if they ever going to bring back Barney the Dinosaur for whatever reason, they should make a Animated Series in this style of Animation ( or at very least in a similar style like this one).

As much as I loathe Barney, I think this design is actually pretty good. If Barney & Friends were animated, this would be an ideal design for the purple prehistoric pretend playmate.
And about the Barney & Friends reboot, 2017 has came & gone without any news about it. My best bet is that it's been postponed to this year to coincide with Barney's 30th anniversary. I read further into the article and found out that Barney wasn't the only kid's show planned to return.
"According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barney & Friends is set to return in 2017 alongside another popular children’s series, Angelina Ballerina, which ended in 2006."
I'm not sure how much you know about Angelina Ballerina, but I remember watching it as a young child and liking it, unlike Barney. There was a subsequent CGI series subtitled The Next Steps, which wasn't a very proper follow-up. The implication was that a third Angelina Ballerina series was planned alongside Barney's reboot, and I think both projects have been postponed to this year to coincide with the respective 30th & 35th anniversaries.
We'll just have to wait & see what the future holds at this rate.

I like it, though if I had my way I would've done the following.
The green spots on the back would be re imagined as osteoderms running down his back
and his teeth and claws would be more pointed

I love it! Barney is one of the kids shows I haven't gotten back into again, but I should because he is sortof a puppet.
