Description

A sequel to this comic.

Just a short time after my comic about Disney in the talks to buy 20th Century Fox comes news of Comcast in the talks to buy 20th Century Fox. So naturally I had to make a comic reacting to it (plus I’ll take any opportunity to draw Woody drinking a beer).

For those of you who don’t get the joke, Comcast owns Universal Studios, which is Disney’s main competition when it comes to theme parks. Long before Disney bought Marvel, Universal bought the theme park rights to the main Marvel heroes on the east coast. After the buyout Disney has tried to get those rights back but Universal has kept a strong hold on them having no plans to let them go (hence why Guardians of the Galaxy is the only Marvel property getting an attraction at Walt Disney World), however they can’t do attractions based on Marvel properties at any of their other parks.

Universal buying Fox does seem a little more likely than Disney as the Universal parks in the US do feature a Simpsons area so it would make sense for them to buy the property and the company that comes with it. Plus having the film rights to X-men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool would seem like a plus for them. Only time will tell wether the mouse or the woodpecker will win the fox (or maybe a rabbit will buy it at the last minute taking everyone by surprise. Weirder things have happened in Hollywood).

I think we all know Disney's going to end up with the rights in the end one way or another. It's just now a question of if they have to get Universal first.

I honestly hate the Idea of Disney buying Fox. But they can have Fantastic Four if they want.

Actually, did you know that Disney was actually considering buying Hasbro for it along with Transformers and My Little Pony, before Disney Infinity ended?

is common in the industry (absortion or banckrupt have been common words in the last years)

Be independent is really hard on the recent years (more with the multiple platforms in combat)

In animation maybe but Video Games not so much. I mean I know Steam is kind of a crapshoot right now but it seems like a lot of indy devs who are fed up with steam have started moving to Nintendo Switch. Apparently one of them even started one of their games on the Wii U before the Switch outright replaced it.

well, not much in video games, but constantly the companies buys anothers with diferent results (THQ is a good example, after the fall of the company, everybody wants every fragment of that Toy heartquarters)

Yes, the indie industry have been grow up a lot in recent years in every platform, but is always hard to be the number one, more if your promises are empty like a desert (no man's sky is a good example of over hype)

I was talking solely about what you said about being independent.

YouTube is far more of a crapshoot for independent producers in recent years, don't know about any other industry though.

When it comes to video though I really feel as though there needs to be a big video sharing platform like Amino so you have an easier time making sure your content is reaching the right audiences. You're still going to have to deal with algorithmic BSery no matter what depending on the amount of other content creators though. YouTube's algorithm bsery is mostly the end result of too many people making too many videos, no matter what they do people are going to wind up getting shorted by it.

Whether people like it or not YT's discovery algorithm is in fact working exactly the way it's supposed to, delivering content people want to see and the bs about videos not showing up in sub boxes? That's a result of people being subbed to too many channels that publish too many videos on the same day. I've checked on multiple occasions and for the most part I don't usually miss videos because of this, usually it's a result of me not noticing at first, not that I even remember any examples of videos not showing up at all. This is because the uploaders I'm subbed to that are still making content regularly or at all tend to only post one video a day at most.

People who are subscribed to a bunch of Let's Players who pump out hundreds of videos a day (or whatever is the normal rate) on the other hand or going to miss uploads.

Also all the YT alternatives aren't much better because you're only going to get noticed by like a hundred or so people at most and it's a lot harder to avoid getting into drama because everyone is going to see your mistakes and a lot of people on those sites are completely full of themselves and can't even take the slightest hint of criticism.

is really sad see that disasters (and not something really good) are common in everywhere. No place is secure to be competitive or decent (and remember the youtube campaing about report you intead they or the Nintendo incident when the youtubers must to erase or don't publish his gameplays for copyright ifrigmenths (misspellding))

a total disaster

Sorry I'm trying to decipher your grammatical errors but I can't seem to be able to do so. Let me see if I actually do understand...

"the youtube campaing about report you"

You mean the rebranding of the trusted flaggers system as YouTube Heroes that completely backfired due to their ineptitude when it comes to basic human relations? That was always there. Here's a fun fact: It doesn't even do anything and never has. doesn't make it good mind, if anything it makes it worse because it fundamentally fails at what it was meant to do to begin with, which honestly would not have been that bad but instead of overmoderating like everyone expected, the trusted flaggers never really did ENOUGH moderating and frankly why should they? They weren't getting paid. Really the whole thing is a disaster in ways that people don't even care to think about it because "BLUH CENCORSHIP! AUTOMATICALLY EVIL! I AUTOMATICALLY HATE THIS EVEN THOUGH I DON'T HAVE THE FULL STORY!"

Also youtube's ineptitude in regards to public relations in general, totally disastrous. I think there's a good reason why we had never even heard of Trusted Flaggers before, what baffles me is why they thought it would be a good idea to reveal it to the public at all, let alone in a way that would backfire so spectacularly.

"or the Nintendo incident when the youtubers must to erase or don't publish his gameplays for copyright ifrigmenths (misspellding))"

You mean the whole streaming thing or the creator "partnership" deal?

Because in regards to the streaming issue, that may have been YouTube's fault for all we know. It didn't really make a whole lot of sense for them to suddenly pull support and it's not like you can't stream on an unrelated channel and upload the archive to the partnered channel, I saw nothing saying this wasn't allowed, in fact I think they themselves suggested doing so, which when you think about it makes the whole thing sound more and more like it was YouTube's fault.

I did a video on that you can find here www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ci1oz…

Sounds to me like you're one of the millions of people who aren't questioning the oddities of these scenarios or getting the full story before getting ticked off about it. Never give in to the hype/hate trains, you might wind up missing the truth.

Yes they are still disasters but they're not the disasters you think they are.
