Description
This was first supposed to be just a quick test on how an animated background would turn out by using only frame-by-frame animation in photoshop, but in the end I decided to try and add characters in there too. Now that I look at it, the color scheme kinda reminds me of that one Minas Morgul scene from LOTR: The Return of the King.Related content

This is amazing~~~~ I'm always amazed when people can animate paintings, but this is one of the nicest ones I have seen! Your style lends itself so well to animation, and it looks so smooth~
I image it's self is stunning too! I adore the colours, and minimal shading, the shapes, and omg! That angel!!!! I feel like it should be a movie, I just need to make my dvd player stop skipping~
Again, you did a wonderful job creating interest! I'm so looking forward to seeing more!

Wow! Thanks!Β I find animating things really addicting in a fun kind of way XD
Damn! If I had the resources or knew the right people I'd make a movie or game out of it >:'D
I pretty much have the art style down for the comic now. Can't wait to get to painting the actual thing. Thanks so much for the support! It means a lot! :'D

I've only ever done animation with pixels... I'll have to try it with paintings some day~;A;
Ahh, I know what you mean! I have a few stories that I could see as really good games, but it's not like anyone would listen to ideas from a nobody like me~
Awesome! I really do admire the effort your putting into your comic! I look forward to seeing it in the future!

I sure recommend trying it! It's fun to see what you can do to an image with background and all. At first it may be a bit slow, but once you find out how to make it work for you it gets a lot faster :'D And I think pixel animations too are quite challenging in their own way. Y'know how it doesn't look right if every pixel is not exactly where it should XD
It's sad that it's so hard to get any exposure to pitch projects these days. It's like you'd already need to have all the contacts. Makes me feel a bit discouraged to think that no matter how good you may be, if you don't know the right people it is only a rare chance you'll be able to make name for yourself, or your projects.
Heh, thanks! I've been wanting on publishing an original comic for way over ten years. And I'm seriously going to make this happen! >:'D

I think that's why I like pixels more, I find it easy to do smooth animation, because I can always see what's wrong, but it seems harder with paintings~ I would like to try it sometime though!
Heh... it's really all about knowing the right people and knowing how to market yourself.... that's why I'm trying children's books, rather then an online comic... because the publishes can do that work... I suck at marketing...;A; Most things are a popularity contest these days... you don't even need to be good at what you do if you know the right people or say the right things...
That being said, a good product can still easily take off! It often takes longer and can be more work, but if your consistent and present yourself and your comic well, I see no reason you could not make something of it! It's interesting and quite different from others I have seen, the main characters design really hits you too, making a clear impression the second you see her! So from what I have seen and heard, I think you really have a very strong product going!
That's awesome, I'm glad your managing to step towards your goal! I really look forward to seeing more!

Yeah, I guess both pixel and non-pixel animation both have their pros and cons. And I sure recommend trying it out! It's actually a lots of fun! :'D
Thanks! I think I'll just have to wait and see how everything turns out once I have the finished comic at my hands.

Now I'm thinking it would be such a great idea make a comic strip using nothing more than animated GIFs. What do you think? too busy to work on it?

jogeart In reply to nelson-net [2014-11-09 11:06:16 +0000 UTC]
That sounds like it would be pretty awesome! Though currently I have my hands full with my thesis and reboot.-comic project for the unforeseeable future, at least till September 2015. So I think I'll have to pass on that for now :C
I may start taking some commissions again after the x-mass holidays though, to make the ends meet with the printing expenses. So you might wanna hit me up then :'D

well, I'm not sure that counts even as a "maybe". I guess one year is too much... who knows what would happens in all that time? I guess you could file it up and discover it two or three year later (it there's lucky).

As interesting as it sounds I currently have my hands full with my thesis and grad work from the university, and have little time for anything but paid commissions on the side (I've got to eat after all). So yeah, I'd really prefer not to take on any new work that I can't promise to finish in a reasonable amount of time. I hope you understand :<

Of course I do! there's (and there's must be) a balance between passion and necessity (I would like remember that concept in some points of my life, 'cause from time to time I use to forget it).
Good luck with your thesis and grad work!

This is really great, but what really makes this animation awesome is the fact that you have the elements of it moving at different times. A lot of issues with animations made today is that they don't follow through action correctly and instead have everything happen at once. The flickering blocks in the background break that monotony, which makes this animation pretty successful.
And I'm a total fan of how Glitch is rendered. Dang.

jogeart In reply to Akaikane [2014-11-06 13:16:29 +0000 UTC]
Heh, yeah, that's actually a thing that bothers me too in a lot of animated images. I personally try to avoid that by making my animation frame counts higher than those of the longest loop. For example, this gif has 30 frames. The animation loop for hair and clothes has 6 frames, so it will loop seamlessly 5 times before the the whole thing loops. This gives me the possibility to work with the timings of the background as well as the blinking and other effects, to make it look more random.
And thanks! Glad hear that! :'D

Me too! This would indeed have been a lot more boring if I'd leaved this to be just a bg practice. And well, what can I say? I just love drawing Glitch XD
Thanks a lot! I tried to capture the feel of the world in the comic in this.

I think this is an annual thing for quite many people. I wonder why does everyone insist on having deadlines just before the holidays. I guess I'll never know. Just try to hang in there. It may feel like a small eternity, but it won't be long before we get the well deserved breather :'D

I'm planning on launching the comic online the next september by publishing the first part of the story as a whole. A printed version will hopefully be available a bit before that :'D
Hopefully I can keep up the pace and make the deadline
