Description
Some characters from Clive Barker's "Abarat" books. This guy's imagination never cease to amaze me.
The red one is John Mischief, a master thief whose brothers live on his antlers. Their names are John Fillet, John Sallow, John Moot, John Drowze, John Pluckitt, John Serpent, and John Slop.
The one with a missing foot is Mendelson Shape, who carries four swords sticked in his back.
He's supposed to walk on his feet, but while reading I always envisioned him walking on all fours like some kind of freaky creature.
The last one is Christopher Carrion, prince of Midnight and ruler of the Gorgossium island. The thing around his neck is some kind of tank where he puts his nightmares in a physical shape, as serpentine creatures. He's got those weird scars around the mouth the day his grandmother sewed his lips shut for saying the word "love". He also seems to have taken an unexplained interest in Candy, the main character, and that's kinda creepy.
Drawn on a half A4 paper, then colored with Photoshop.
(After something like 2 years, I can finally color stuff with Photoshop in a way that I find satisfying, so I'm happy with that
Abarat (c) Clive Barker

I don't think John had one in the book, but I've already invoked artistic license for the way I drew Mendelson Shape, so I'm gonna do that again

Does he sleep? Good question. I still haven't read the next books. I wanted to buy them online but I keep forgetting to do so.

Well he obviously dreams (the nightmares) but sleep...? 0_o Β it is one of the great mysteries of the world XD

Those characters look amazing. Maybe I should check out this books ... since I'm reading "Neverwhere" at the moment and I simply love it, so this might also be good for me

Neverwhere!! I'm so happy to know you love that book too!
Abarat is full of creative characters like that (I guess this is what happens when Clive Barker writes a fantasy book which isn't specifically for adults). I'd also like to draw Malingo, the orange "geshrat" with fan-shaped ears, and that wizard who wears seven hats at the same time (I forgot his name).
But I only read the first book, maybe the following ones aren't that good, I have no idea. I can't find them anywhere.

It didn't came as a surprise, since I loved everything from Gaiman so far
Okey, I will check out the first book then (It's already on my to-read-list)
Have you looked on amazon.uk? ... wait, here: [link]

I looked for them in libraries, I'm still not used to buy things on the internet If I really can't find them, I'll buy them like that, though. Thanks!

The coloring almost looks like watercolors. Very natural!
And I love your version of Mendelson! It's probably more accurate than mine...
Obligatory remark about C. Carrion looking badass and BLUE.
BLUE.

BLUE.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I can't check it in the book because I'm at my work right now AND YEAH I SHOULD BE WORKING but whatever.) but I think that's the color of the tank in the first book - at least in the story, because on the painting it's orange.
As I envisioned it, it was kinda fluorescent too but that's just my own version.

Really? XD
I accidentally "read" the second book first, more like I listened to it on one of those listening cassette tapes so I never saw any of the pictures. When they began explaining C. Carrion I was so confused, I thought he had like a tube around his neck... But then I imagined it as blue too, so yeah.
Then I went back and actually read the books.
Blue kinda looks better...
Why.

To be honest I don't really know if I'm going to draw more, but who knows.
First I should read the second book and I can't find it anywhere

Unexpected. Gorgeous! I adore you!
I love Johns' expression. Mendelson is very dynamic, though I do not think he would even run like that.
And Carrion is so funny, I do like it very much, he seems to be so relaxed... ^^

So you read that book too? Nice coincidence!
About Mendelson... yeah... he's not supposed to walk like that in the book... this was the mental image I had of this character.
And Carrion is probably relaxed because he just took a good sip out of the nightmare tank. Mmmmh so relaxing
