Ah, well maybe I read puns into everything, then. My apologies for the false alarm.
It related to #2 the 'vampire cardinal.' The combination of the robes and the bird create a resemblance to a cardinal priest (The honorific title in the catholic church) with the bird representing the red vestment and headpiece of the outfit, and the robes as black instead of white to make it more vampiric.
All that aside, though, I really like the color and execution with this set of monsters. They work well by themselves and together too.

I'm not gonna lie, if I saw the matchstick snatcher in my house, I'd probably freak out! It's cute up close, but it resembles a spider far too much!
