Ok....first attempt with wire. Had a hell of a time getting everything bent the same on both sides...and still, it's a little wonky. Better luck next time.Related content

This is lovely, very light and elegant. If it is too flimsey try a lower gague wire like 16 or 14. I get mine from [link] and I find that either dead soft or half hard works best. Good luck on your next piece!

Thanks for the tips. I was considering using 12 gauge copper (#1) wire...but, copper discolors the skin. Then I thought about using plasti-dip (liquid rubber coating) but I can't find any in black. Hmmm...perhaps high grade aluminum wire?

That would work well. Also if you buy copper wire from a craft store (in the jewlwry section) or from a site that sells beading supplys it will be coated so it won't discolour the skin. Or at least all the stuff I use is sealed. Good luck on your search!

Very gothic-looking, the black wire looks great for a first try!

For a first attempt, not bad at all! I can see how it might be a little flimsy, it looks like 22... even 24 guage wire which does not hold its shape well at all. My first attempt was also with 22 guage, I never wore it or anything so It never fell apart but I know it would have at the first test lol. Getting your loops even comes with practice. They never get perfect, that's what machines are for, but it gets close enough you don't notice the slight differences. When you get used to making them it just becomes natural. you should play with wire again sometime! It's well worth the effort.

TY again. My major beef with this, is the wire is too flimsy. Difficult to get it to hold it's shape. The next one I do, I will braid the wire first. That should give it more strength and the strands more breadth, making the finished piece a little bolder. The beads will have to be inserted into the braid......or attached with copper wire...hmmmmm....*wheels spin*.........

I know what you mean! the wire I have to use to construct my rosaries with is just harsh . . really hard on my nails and fingers. I have more puncture marks from the wire than from the needles I use for my chokers! lol . . ah well. what we do for our art, yes? practice and experimentation . . they just never seem to end.
