Description I'm so excited to get this out!
I've been crazy into typography and letters for the past few years (likewise alphabets, language and phonetics), and in the course of it, I began creating my own fictional alphabet. Now I've finally developed it to where I like it, so I made this finalized chart. It's been a while in the workings, and has changed alot sense it began.
Rather then having it's own language, it's meant as an alternate script for English. I've always been bugged by how crazy words are spelled in English, often not being spelled the way they sound, or phonetically. So I took all the basic sounds we commonly use in English (thirty, by my count) and assigned letter shapes to them that I liked. The shapes of these letters were firstly based on letters of the Latin script (which English uses), then I borrowed a little from Cyrillic (which like Russian and Ukrainian use) and Greek. Then I customized each of them from there. So it's sort of a mix of those three scripts.

Above each letter in this chart—paired off in capital and lower case—is the letter's name. And below is how the letter is pronounced when written. See if you can figure out how your name would be spelled!
I may post more details in the future.

The fictional letters in this chart were created by dissecting and editing letters rendered in the Arial font. Made using Blender 3D.

Odd, but it could work I guess. Wouldn’t mind seeing some diphtongs here andd there though.

Well, diphthongs are achieved with vowel digraphs. English “long i” is spelled “ɑɛ”, and the “ow” diphthong in “cloud” are “au”, etc. One of these days I’ll upload a new diagram that list digraphs.

Pretty close! It would probably look something like "Dзєʀєɒ".

I see you took quite a lot of inspiration from the Greek and Cyrilic alphabets as well.

Cyrillic came from Greek.

Yes, I did indeed! You have a good eye! I wanted to kinda mix them together with Latin.

I like how the "ng" sound is pretty much the IPA version, and you just took that principle and put it on the capital letter

John-AM In reply to KasaiNeko42a [2015-12-22 01:59:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! That was my goal. To make capital and small forms of each letter resemble each other, while still keeping to rules for shapes of capitals and smalls.
I so wish we used "ŋ", 'θ' and "ʃ" letters in English.

I agree with the first and third, but IMHO the Icelandic Thorn letter would be way easier to write

Oh, I totally agree, I was just making reference to the IPA sounds. They never should have removed the thorn from Old English. -_-

Thank you! I've put alot of work and thought into it.
Ah, yes! I should have thought about that. XD Well, even without typing, you might be able to figure it out in your head.
Some letters similar to these do exist in real alphabets that could be copied and pasted. But they're not all shaped exactly like them, and some of them might not show up on some people's computers. Idk.

Oh, and thanks for the faves too! I appreciate them.

Edit: Here's some similar letters you can copy and paste. Do they all show up for you? or do any of them look like empty boxes or such?

No problem!

And yep i got them! here ill try to spell my name
Cnɔɥaȷ

There hopefully i got "Snowfall" hehe.
i couldent find a "awwww" sound so i just used the A sound like cAt.
I made a writing system but it only used about 10 sounds and is spoken in a broken version of french i made without using the lips for one of my races, its meant to be non understandable mostly though lol, the symbols are a bunch of curved and squiggled lines that represent the sound, joined together written from top to bottom. its hard to explaine but you will see them eventually I'm sure

John-AM In reply to Astra-Planetshine [2015-09-02 04:58:38 +0000 UTC]

Very, VERY close! The "aw" sound in 'fall' is represented by the backwords-D looking letter ɑ (between the O and P. I call it "ah" or "short o") which I derived from the other way our a can be written (a/ɑ). The ONLY other thing is the long O in 'snow' is represented by the "o" (the "ɔ" stands for the "oo" in book). Only two vowels, you weren't far off! Very well done!
'Cnoɥɑȷ'

That's sounds cool! I really can't wait to see it! Languages and such are fun to work on, aren't they?
I've never learned French. Spanish is the secondary language where I am, though I still don't know it extremely well.

ah ok at least i was close! you know your letter system better anyway hehe.

They are fun to work with indeed ^^ and honestly watching that artifexian youtube channel has gotten me into it a bit

Haha true.^^ I just wanted to see how easy it would be for others to use and transcribe it.

Ah yes! I've started looking into that channel. Learned a few new things on phonetics, as well as orbits. Didn't realize that there's an equation for the length of a body's orbital period with mass and such. I'll have to learn that.

Astra-Planetshine In reply to John-AM [2015-09-06 06:47:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure with practice it could be used easily i only just saw it and it was alright.

For sure ^^ personally for all the equations i just use online calculators and Exel lol

The calculators that Google has are quite useful alot of the time. I've just gotta look at that vid again to see what that equation is.

here is a good calculator i use sometimes for orbital periods www.calctool.org/CALC/phys/ast…
though if you just dont put the orbital period line of script into space engine it calculates it for you anyway. unlike Celestia haha (though its messy for binary planets)
