Yuka: So....Do I get shoes now?

Kayley: Unfortunately. We do not issue shoes or socks in here.

Yuka: But you said....

Kayley: I said we would talk about it. I didn't say I'd give you any.

Yuka's eyes widen.

Yuka: What? But I need something to wear! The floor is cold!

Kayley: Like I said. We don't give you any footwear.

Yuka shakes her head in disbelief.

Yuka: So I need to buy them myself?

Kayley: We don't sell shoes or socks in the commissary either. I'm sorry.

Yuka is stunned.

Yuka: You're joking, right?

Kayley: I'm not joking, miss. Bare feet is part of the uniform in this facility. No exceptions.

Yuka is struggling to process what she just heard.

Yuka: WHY?

Kayley: It's a safety issue. Shoes and socks are easy to hide things in. Saves us time when we pat you down.

Yuka begins sobbing.

Yuka: But that's unfair. The floors are filthy and cold and....

Kayley: Floors are cleaned every day, miss. I will grant you that they are cold.

Yuka: This is so messed up....

Kayley: What's messed up about it? You don't get to wear gloves in here either, so what's the big deal with going barefoot?

Kayley pauses for a moment.

Kayley: Look, as long as you're incarcerated, your feet must be bare. This is not up for debate. You'll just have to get used to it.

Yuka is speechless.

Kayley: Ok, inmate. Time to go now. Get up.
