The Kahj are a species of sapient, horned chalicotheres. Originating from the forests of Netic, Kahj are one of the largest sapient species in Aboreala, second only to the Umbur.

Kahj are predominantly herbivorous, regularly eating and cultivating a wide variety of plant-based foods, though many have been known to occasionally eat meat as well. Similar to how not all humanoids are able to digest milk due to lactose intolerance, not all Kahj are able to digest meat.

Kahj are most famous for their love of music, which is present all throughout their culture. Songs exist for virtually any event, activity, or ritual, from celebrations, to storytelling, to religious rituals and prayers. Even their languages often sound musical and song-like.

The patterning and coloration of a Kahj's fur can vary considerably. Kahj fur is typically some shade of brown or gray, and while most Kahj have a lighter colored underbelly, many can have additional patterns. These patterns mainly consist of things like light or dark speckles, marks of lighter color on the face, and occasional blotches or patches of color on the body.
Both male and female Kahj have horns, which are primarily used for display, as Kahj mostly fight using their hands and claws. Outside of males being a bit bigger and sometimes having slightly longer horns, there's very little physical difference between the two sexes.
