Lucy opens her wardrobe and pulls out her St Hilda's Secondary School blazer and tie. She then closes the door and hooks the hanger onto the handle. She wheels back a few feet and looks at her old uniform fondly but critically.

What should I do with you? she wonders.

She wants to keep it, to keep the hope alive that one day she will be returning to Hanfort and to her old school (and her old friends), but a small voice is telling her that this will never happen, that she will never need to wear these items ever again for their proper purpose.

She ought to get rid of them.

But no! How can she throw away her life in the village as easily as dumping some old clothes into a wastebin?

Lucy sighs and stares at the uniform, reminiscing about events and moments she experienced while wearing it.

After a few minutes have passed and she realizes she is not making the situation any easier for herself, she wheels forward again and lifts the St Hilda's tie and blazer up by the hanger. It would be so easy to go outside right now and throw this into the refuse bin. And then, on Monday, the bin men would take it away and... well... that would be one more link to her old life neatly severed.

"No! I can't!" she scowls at where her own thoughts are taking her. "I just can't!"

She opens the wardrobe door and places the hanger back on the rod inside, returning her old blazer and old tie to safety. There is room in the wardrobe; they can stay there to await the time they are needed again.
