"Goodnight, Holly!" Xiulan calls out. "I love you!"

"Love you, too," Holly replies as she slowly backs away to the door, reluctant to leave but knowing that she has to get some sleep tonight. She gets to the door, opens it a crack so the light from the corridor does not dazzle Xiulan, and slides through. She turns and takes another look at her girlfriend. "See you in the morning, Xiu. I love you so much."

Xiulan lifts a hand in Holly's direction but Holly can already tell that her lover is in that dreamy middleground between sleep and waking where speech is too much of an effort. The arm falls and Holly tells herself she can hear Xiulan's breathing become deep and regular, indicating her partner is asleep. She smiles with a warm feeling of love all the way back to her own room.

Saturday nights are certainly not as perfect as when Xiulan was sleeping in Holly's bed, where so much snuggly warm intimacy took place, and that will be a miss. But Holly accepts that, now she has come out to her parents and they are aware of the relationship between the two girls, allowing them to sleep in the same bed is completely out of the question. If Holly is being honest with herself, she had hated the secrecy and felt uncomfortable keeping such an important part of her life hidden from her parents, so things feel better now in that regard, despite the sacrifice it brings.

She returns to her bedroom and gets into bed, wondering what tomorrow will be like, with the visit to the stables to see Claire's horse the foremost in her mind. It will be Xiulan's first encounter with Cloverpatch whereas Holly has paid him many a visit . Claire has said, however, that she will get everything ready for each girl to have a ride on him if they wish, and this will be a first for Holly.
