Description
I was feeling a tad inspired by the folks who have posted pages from their sketchbooks and thought that I might do the same. Each of the pages was drawn during an hour-long train ride, some days are more productive then others which usually is determined by the number of people on the train and how tired I am feeling at the moment. Thought about piecing together the parts that were most interesting but figured this was a more honest approach since this is what an actual sketch page looks like rather than some good drawings from a few pages placed on single page.Last four pages are from the first 2 days of this semester. Hope you dig them, voyeuristic sketching.
Seeing these pages together also made me realize I should start drawing the seats along with the people rather than just the peopleβ¦

Great lines, very free and flowing. Beautiful work. Some watercolors on top of this might be nice

I really like these. I should try sketching from life sometime, but I don't know where to start, or how to draw people inconspicuously (sp?).

I love the swooping quality of your lines. Very James Jean (his sketchbooks--at least judging from what he posts on his site--are filled with train sketches, too, but I'm sure you've already seen those).

2b and 4b, constantly have to sharpen those things so I tend to go through 2b pencils real quick.

What train are you riding that you can get your lines so effortless and smooth? Whenever I try to draw on the NY subway it looks like I have parkinsons or something. Great sketches.

its the metra train. I try to do really quick long strokes, that way the train cant really affect the line work that much. I also dont do much in terms of construction lines, only really do that on the heads which also helps.

Awesome. This sort of sketch work is so productive, I love to do it. It's a real shame I don't have to make those shockingly long train journeys regularly any more...a ten minute bus ride (usually having to stand) just doesn't cut it.

i think i learn more about people's style by looking at their sketches. i'm kind of envious of how clean you are able to keep your sketches. nice stuff.

those are gorgeous, i'm loving the many rolls of chins.
how do you go about this without making people uncomfortable? are you just very sly, last time i gave this a go i thought i was so discreet but i made the guy run away.

just try to forget about what people think. Either they'll think your attracted to them, or they will notice your drawing them and want to kick your ass.
its just something you have to get passed

Actually, having non sharpened pencils sometimes makes for nice sketches. Eh, but whatever. Whatever floats your boat. I like the sketches of the person with the ipod, the guy with his face in his hands, and the tattoo guy
