I don't like those elements. Here's my Elements Of Discovery!
Dr. Whoof - Element Of Knowledge
Derpy - Element Of Curiosity
Vinyl Scratch - Element Of Innovation
Octavia - Element Of Tradition
Lyra - Element Of Optimism
Bonbon - Element Of Courage

My question is how "tradition" is an element of discovery. Aren't traditions rituals that have been solidified in a given culture or one's life, often providing structure? How do new things come of that? now "exploration" would make more sense (even if it's very close to "innovation").

The way I was looking at it, new discoveries are made by building on and updating the discoveries of the past. For example, many elements of Newtonian physics were disproved by relativity, but Einstein probably wouldn't have been able to do what he did without the work of Newton and other earlier scientists forming a foundation for him to build on (just like how Vinyl added her own music on top of Octavia's). "Tradition" is probably not the best word to describe that, but it fits Octavia well.

I see. "Stepping on the shoulders of giants"...that is pretty hard to put succinctly. Carry on!

"Element of using giants as stepladders" just doesn't have the same ring to it. lol

Skepticism is more like a negative thing. LyraΒ shouldΒ be the Element of Optimism. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimism

Skepticism is actually a very important element of discovery. One can be very positive but still be a skeptic.

Lyra as "Skepticism" really clashes with her fanon portrayal (though I for one was never a fan of human-obsessed Lyra... at least, not the idea that she's completely incapable of *ever* having a thought that isn't "hurrr hyoomans," though I must admit the longer fanfics treat her better.)

That's true. I was mostly going off her portrayal in Slice of Life, where a lot of her dialogue was, "Whaaaat?" That's not quite the same thing as skepticism, but it was close enough, I thought.
