Description
Rook and her Cyclone from Mospeada/Robotech:Invid Wars.I discovered Robotech late in its initial run, so Invid War was my first exposure to cartoondom's most famous kit-bash1.
Sure, it depicted a post apocalyptic future, which deviants sharply from my preferred not too distant dystopic cyberpunk futures, but all the heroes in it roamed the battered landscape in fighter jets and motorcycles that all turned into robots!
Really there should be something like that in every cartoon.
1.) What we know, and revere, as Robotech is actually an aggregate of three separate Japanese animated series: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. I used to assume every anime fan knew this, but I meet more and more whippersnappers who stare blankly when I bring up the glory of Robotech. It's sad really.

Not enough in anime these days. I mean there's Bakuon, which is a fine anime about moe girl motorcycle enthusiasts, but sadly, they don't blow up any aliens.

Yeah, I need to talk to some Japanese light novel author and have him churn out a SF mecha story with some hawt chicks who drive transforming mecha bikes against some aliens. Then it will be cool again...Β

Light novels really do seem to be where the bulk of modern anime get their premises.Β
Although, given time perhapsΒ HumikaneΒ will come up with something.

The details on that motorcycle... And I love the way the lines of that jetbot's legs become distorted due to the heat waves coming out of it. : D I just love how you work with lines, and the tips you gave me are coming in handy. C: Except that I might have to go out of STATE just to get some more pro pens...

Rook was actually kinda sweet considering all she'd been through.
Still love watching the series on DVD.

Thanks. Of course I saw it as Robotech: Invid War.
It would be nice one day to see the original GCM. I've often wonder what it would be like with all the original violence and partial nudity, and none of the "Huh? Huh? Huh?'s" from the dub.

I need to check that out. Would be nice to see the hot springs episode, without Rand being dubbed as saying, "I think the girls are in trouble, I better check it out."Β
Riiiight.

Kids today don't know how good they have it. Today distributors actually put some effort into translation and voice acting. And even then, one can opt to listen to the orginal voice acting, due to the miracle of DVD.
It's hard for me to listen to the present generation's complaints when I think about what we had to put up with in the 1980's. Although they have a right to moan about what FOX Kids did to Escaflowne.

Those were the days. Of course it spoiled me. I couldn't go back to the likes of He-Man of Bravestarr after seeing that level of animation.
It's funny. Today, compared to it's descendants, like Macross Frontier, SD Macross/Robotech appears antiquated and even quaint, but back then, it totally blew the doors of my mind.

Awesome art, first and foremost. However, that's not Rand (unless you are doing some alternate universe female version, which is cool)

The real shame of it is, this picture's been hanging since November and only now do I get a comment with a correction.
Oh well, thanks for looking out.

I watched Robotech: The Macross Saga in '88 or '89, but never saw the end (guess because there was a REAL war going on in my country at that time, I think TV station lost licence to broadcast it).
SO, recently I downloaded ALL episodes, with "The sentinels" movie, and "The shadow chronicles" movie, and watched it day by day, from crashing of SDF1 'till the last appearance of Rick Hunter, and his ship heading towards the black hole...
Now (20 years after), I'm waiting for the sequel :0)
My favourite character-Lisa Hayes.

Hmmm, never drew her. She is underrated. I may have to rectify that.
If I may ask, what country are you from?

I'm from Serbia (Yugoslavia 'till recently). Heh, and half of my ability to recognize jets (you mentioned it in the other comment) was learned "the hard way", since NATO bombed my country for 78 days (year 1999.). Some trivia: it was the first time ever that B-2 bomber was used, and also the first time f-117a was shot down.
I encourage you to draw Lisa asap :0)

Aha, but lurv my Robotech, despite it's patched together jigsaw of three different other series. In fact, I know that this is indeed the Scout version of the Cyclone instead of the Battle or Saber versions. Though I have to admit I always did like the cool factor of the Saber.
I'm one of the few people I know that has the transformable toy. I played with that for years one end when I was younger. Though I was never able to get my hands on the Hovertank from Southern Cross. That was darn impossible.
