I think it didn't help that you had them all looking forward. Because of that, I concentrated on their eyes and thought she was in front of them and didn't even look at the "ball". Have you tried making only Falcon look downwards disappointedly and have someone who's not seen it yet look at it and see if they get it faster?

Hm, changing their eyes didn't seem like a viable option for me, though what you're saying makes good sense. However, part of the essence of the Nichijou Stare is the dissociated, far-away look that shows a total lack of interest in one's surroundings.

The other option was to have the morphball talk, which was what I did before making the Intro Card. I pulled the dialog when it seemed a bit heavy-handed in that context, but now that they're separate it may have been better to put it back in.
