I drew this a couple weeks ago to celebrate Firefall's release on Steam ! But it wasn't featured on Firefall Live until yesterday, so I waited for its debut there first.I was trying for a steampunk-ish take on the game's iconic assault frame. This was somewhat of a challenge for me, as machines and rigid geometry are not what I would consider my strengths. Nonetheless, it was a fun exercise, and I got to try to pretend I was an illustrator in the 90's! I feel like I want to pursue this style some more.
I really hope that suit has proper insulation, 'cause she's pretty much wearing metal pipes full of super hot water vapor, and that is SUPER DANGEROUS.
But then again, so is NOT WEARING A HELMET.

Wow! This looks great! I can sort of see what you mean by the 90s thing, haha. At least, I see a hint of Akira Toriyama style mecha there, correct me if I'm wrong. But I really like that chest plate and the arm thingies. And everything else of course but those I like ze most. Actually I might like the swishy hair the most. Hum. IT'S A TIE

yeah, like wear a suit full of jet fuel, use a unstable plasma gun and charge against big badasses with miniguns weren't dangerous enough
that apart, loved the steam punk-ish concept, you could have made more details like little valves over it (double reference? lol) and more analogical meters,but still looks alato badass, great work

Gotta love me some steampunk. 
And of course we must thank you once again for pointing out the safety precautions one should take when donning this sort of equipment. Those other steampunk purveyors are terribly irresponsible in their disclaimers on these matters. Helmets are important.

lol silly JohnSu, just because something is Steampunk doesn't mean it runs entirely on steam. The "steam" part is just indicative of the era people are living in (usually the late 1800s).
Final Fantasy VII was sometimes considered Steampunk, everything ran on Mako energy.
Ghost in the Shell and Armitage Polymatrix are cyberpunk, so that's a little different.
As for why it's called Punk, I don't know, probably something based on what Frank Miller did with "The Dark Knight Returns".

You've got it backwards! The steam was a given, since the game now runs on Steam. Steampunk was then chosen as the most appropriate aesthetic I could think of for the medium.
